Ascetic Siddhartha didn’t visit his previous abode after attaining enlightenment. He spent years preaching Dhamma and when one of his childhood friends who worked in the palace invited him to come back to the palace and bless them, Buddha kindly accepted the invitation and came back. After Buddha’s arrival at the place, princess Yashodara pointed at Buddha from the palace balcony to 7 year old prince Rahula and said, “Son, see that majestic monk who goes from house to house for food ? That is your father. He left the palace the day you were born”. Prince Rahula asked, “Mom, why did he left the same day ? Didn’t he love me?”, Yashodara said, “No son, he loved you very much. He left the palace because he was so determined to find a way to stop the samsara cycle. He wanted to stop a way from us being born over and over again. He left because he thought he wouldn’t be able to leave the palace when he gets too attached to you”. Prince Rahula understood what his mother was saying. “Mom, did he find what he was looking for? He sure looks calm and pleasant than anyone I’ve seen”. “He sure did my son. Also he has a treasure that he wants to give you. Why don’t you go to the street and ask for it yourself?”. Prince Rahula ran out of the palace gates and went in front of Buddha. “Father, I feel so comfortable and blessed around you. My mother now told me the story of why you left me. She also said that you have a treasure that you want to give me. What is it father?”. Buddha smiled, took Rahula’s hand and said, “Son, I don’t have any worldly treasures but I can sure give you the most valuable treasure of all time. If you follow that, you will soon be free. You won’t live over and over again”. Prince Rahula took Buddha’s hand and followed him to the monastery. He was ordained there and later he attained Arahanthood.
