However, in men of any age and women aged 56 or over, symptoms of depression did not predict the presence of heart disease.

Seems like I ride every 2 weeks on the day before a trip lately. 😂

Still got it and feel solid even tho I’ve ridden about 5 days in the last 3 months.

Years prior of countless hours riding and perfecting my craft is ingrained in my blood. The passion to ride my bike still fuels me but is a bit on the back burner as I follow my new passion and purpose.

Don’t worry, I’m not done riding. I’ve just been working on new passions and businesses I’ve created. Kind of crazy to think what I’m doing today all stemmed from my BMX dream.

What BMX taught me translates to all areas of life. I’m on a mission to share it with the world and let others know that if a broke kid with nothing but a dream can go from living in a closet to running his own business changing lives, then we can all succeed at what we put our minds to and believe we can accomplish.

Our minds are all that stand in our way.

This doesn’t mean that you have to allow this in your life, but it helps you understand why this happens and to act accordingly from compassion and not from resentment.⠀

Resentment ultimately affects your health negatively while compassion heals.⠀

2) Has the person overcome the pattern that I identified as harmful? Can I allow them to be themselves now and not the idea I have from them? Would releasing a negative idea of someone make me a happier person?⠀

If you answer yes to these questions, then you will feel a great sense of freedom once you allow yourself to get rid of your mental pattern.⠀

It’s important that you only keep positive patterns in you. All of your patterns create cellular communication that affect the way your body and mind work.⠀

When you hold anger and resentment you are only hurting yourself. ⠀
⠀
Be free from mental identifications and learn to discern in each moment the best course of action by connecting to the consciousness within you.⠀

Here is the plan that I’m currently doing. 5 quick workouts a week for 8 weeks. They all take about an hour to accomplish... so they’re meant to be fast paced. Don’t have an hour? No problem... Just pick up where you left off the next day.

I start Day 1 on Monday... Usually rest on Tuesday and Saturday and/or Sunday, depending on what we’re doing on the weekend.

I understand that this probably isn’t the most optimal way to train in 2019 (training only one or two areas of the body a day)... but it’s effective and easy. I think it’s an easy way of ticking off all the muscle groups and make sure you’re not missing an area of your body. I tried to incorporate as many compound exercises as possible.

Some notes for the workouts...
👉 I use JEFIT and/or BodySpace apps to track my workouts. You should track your progress to have success. I suggest getting an app like one of these because they have a timer for in between exercises... and they calculate your 1MR... which is fun.

👉 You can substitute any of the exercises for something you either feel more comfortable with, or you have the ability to do better.

👉 The link icon on the chart indicates a superset. That means you don’t rest in between those exercises. The biggest superset is three in a row. The ones that are four in a row can be split up into two.

⁣There was once a time when I was totally fearful of going out to eat because I didn’t have control over how many calories I was eating.  Luckily I’ve found ways to go out and enjoy myself while still staying on track.⁣
⁣
These are the tips I use myself and teach to all of my clients. There’s no need to stay home and cook all of your own meals, it just takes being a little more mindful.⁣
⁣
Look at the menu online and decide what you will order ahead of time, then reverse engineer your day. Stick to lean protein, fruits, and veggies so you have more calories to play with.⁣
⁣
Prioritize mostly protein and veggies for your main meal. But be careful about portion sizes. Protein servings can be huge, so stick to eating about a palm sized serving.⁣
⁣
Fill up a little before your main meal by ordering a salad instead of the calorie dense apps. Just be mindful of the extra nuts, cheese, and dressing. Order the dressing on the side and use your for to dip it in.⁣

Pick your one indulgence. If you want to drink, skip the bread basket or dessert and vice versa. It’s ok to  a little, just not on everything.⁣ ⁣
Dressings and sauces are often calorie bombs. Instead of having your salad or meal slathered with the stuff, ask for it on the side. That way you’re in control of how much you use.⁣

Veggies are a good choice, but cooks make them tastier by adding lots of butter, cream, or oil. To avoid adding hundreds of extra calories, order them steamed.⁣

Fat is not always the enemy.  Our bodies actually need fat to operate properly.  Did you know that about 60% of your brain is comprised of fat?  Don’t run down to the soda shop just yet, there are different types of fat and some are great and some are to be avoided.  Two different types of fat are saturated and unsaturated.  Stay away from refined and processed oils as much as possible and choose items naturally high in healthy fats, like those pictured here. BUT that doesn’t mean these items are free to over consume either, the goal is to eat what you need. Fat is not always the enemy. Our bodies actually need fat to operate properly. Did you know that about 60% of your brain is comprised of fat? Don’t run down to the soda shop just yet, there are different types of fat and some are great and some are to be avoided. Two different types of fat are saturated and unsaturated. Stay away from refined and processed oils as much as possible and choose items naturally high in healthy fats, like those pictured here. Yes- the brain needs FATS, healthy fats, and choosing to eat low fat/high carb diets is not good for it.  I still spend a lot of time in clinic ‘rehabilitating’ fats in to the diets of clients who struggle to let go of that twentieth century dogma that eating dietary fat - any fat - is essentially bad for our health.  But not all fat is the same.  There are fats that are good for us, and fats that are best avoided.

So here’s an interesting bit of info’ . . . Extra virgin olive oil (good fat!) comes in quite a broad range of price points - ever wondered why? Or how this is possible?  It pays to read the small print. -

I’ve stood in the supermarket, perusing the various brands of olive oil, and often wondered how one (fairly simple, uncomplicated product) can have such a broad price differential.  Perhaps when something is ridiculously cheap, we need to apply a little healthy scepticism.  It’s very likely that that really cheap one is not 100% extra virgin olive oil.  It may be 70%, or 55%, so ‘mostly’ extra virgin olive oil, but what of the other ingredients? -

Exciting news! The Australian Government has just put $50 million towards more research on Traumatic Brain Injury to find better treatments, develop new technologies and improve recovery from injury. It is estimated that the lifetime cost of each TBI is between $2.5-$4.8 million. This recent financial boost is a huge step forward in recognizing the economic burden of TBI, at both the individual and global level. Preliminary findings support the use of Neurofeedback for TBI but we need more studies 💪🏼 Here’s to hoping we see more in the way of published research! 📷 @harvardmed

Butyrate is a short chain fatty acid that the cells in your colon absolutely LOVE! It helps them stay healthy and strong. 💪🏼

Some foods like potato starch, chicory root, raw onion/garlic, green bananas and organic butter/ghee have butyrate or contain prebiotics that help your gut bacteria make it to feed cells. 👍🏼

Butyrate is a histone deacetylase inhibitor -  this is important to increase the interaction between your DNA and the histone it’s wrapped around. A decrease in acetylation increases neurodegenerative disease. There is some cool research with butyrate and Parkinson’s, stroke patients, and dementia. 🧠

Cells of the colon adapted and primarily use butyrate for energy production = more ATP! As the brain ages and if there is reduced glucose utilization (see my brain blood sugar post), you increase your risk for memory problems and brain fog. Research is looking at how butyrate is used as an alternative for more brain energy. 🧠

Gut inflammation resulting in increased zonulin and poorly functioning tight junctions (“leaky gut”) greatly increases the risk for autoimmune disease, cancer and even a “leaky” blood brain barrier. Plus an inflamed gut communicates to the brain via the vagus nerve to freak out and react! This can inflame the brain more. In many rat studies, butyrate rich diets greatly helped improved everything! 🧠

That headache that you think is malaria may just be because you are dehydrated and drinking water may just send it back to your village people. I have experienced it. Just drinking water and rest sent headache away. So before you start to swallow those pills and blame our stressful environment, check yourself to ensure you have not caused.

While there are so many ways to move the body, walking has to be one of my favourites.

It suits all levels of fitness and you can sneak it into even the busiest of schedules.

Heading outside for a walk not only moves your body, but it also gives you an opportunity to give yourself a mental “time out,” where you have some space to just breathe, let go and shake off whatever it was that was clouding your mind and weighing you down.

Giving yourself that short break is exactly what you need to refocus and come back ready to tackle things with a fresh mind ✨💚
