Perfection of proportions, refinement of execution - that’s how we can describe this fantastic violin (a new edition to our collection) by F. Caussin. An extremely fine antique 19th century French violin by F. Caussin, made circa 1870.
The top is made of two parts of spruce showing terrific fine grain lines slightly widening towards the edges. The back is made of two pieces of nicely flamed maple, the curl going horizontally. The ribs and head are of the same wood. The violin was originally conceived and masterly executed as an atiqued copy at the time, showing original artificially added-on signs of age which have perfectly blended with natural ones since then.
The varnish is of a lushious orange-brown color, minimally worn throughout. The corners are slightly rounded. The exquisite head has been originally grafted on the neck, as it was commonly done at that time.
This violin is in pristine preserved condition, with just onevery small (alomost invisible) f-hole wing repair.
The sound is of the highest concert level, warm and mature, yet at the same time powerful, projective and brilliant.
In a series of blind tests it has consistently beat just about ALL violins in the price range up to $150.000 -plus (including some notable examples of Lott, Gand, J.B.Viullaume, Ornati etc). Body length : 355 mm.
