Today’s #marchmeetthemaker prompt is Throwback. This photograph was taken almost a year ago, when I was right at the start of my natural dyeing adventure and it remains one of my all time favourite shots. I’m proudly holding mini skeins which I dyed with dandelion, dock, nettle, avocado and onion skins. This speaks to my natural dyeing forager, waste not want not heart more than I can tell you.
And why mini skeins, and not whole skeins? It’s not because everyone loves mini skeins (we do!) but, because, at the time, I didn’t trust myself to dye anything bigger incase I messed it up. This seems unbelievable now when I regularly dye up to 10 skeins at a time (the capacity of my dye pan) with reasonable certainty that I’ll get the colour and shade I’m aiming for, and absolutely certainty that, even if I don’t, the results will still be beautiful. I feel proud of how far I’ve come in such a short space of time, and I’m really excited for the future and all the endless plant dyed colour it holds.
