#tbt I've been flexing all my life. In fact shortly after I was born in 1960, I was hitting double biceps poses on my blanket. Even here at 14 years old I was flexing on the beach in Atlantic City. Its always been a part of my life. Back then my "muscles" came from pushups and body weight exercises while watching Jack La Lane on TV in the summer when school was out. There was also a lot of running and bike riding, basketball, and street football. There was no internet, video games, or cable so you did things with your friends. Things that required activity. A typical day during the summer was having some kind of activity after breakfast up until lunch. Then we played until it got too hot and most went in to take a nap. Some of us would continue after that nap and play up until dinner. After dinner we rushed to get back out to play until it got dark and we'd be in bed by 10pm. Repeat. I always liked being physically active and challenging others in a friendly non-threatening way. This is probably why even now I abhor inactivity. It doesn't have to be weightlifting or crosstraining. Walking in the park, walking in general as a matter fact. Cycling is a nice way to manage weight and blood sugar. For me at the end of the day what really matters are my biomarkers. Keeping healthy markers while not guaranteeing a longer life will give you a better quality of life. Looking good from controlling your food intake and engaging in regular exercise is icing on the cake. Not too much cake though.
