When we were at Fort Desoto Beach, we saw these birds we thought were dead and lying on the beach. Turns out they are Black Skimmers that sleep lying down. They feed at night by flying over the water with their lower beak dipped in the water hoping to scoop up fish. They have a large underbite you can see on #6 and very unique behavior according to:
We use Google Photos to backup our phone pics. It has a cool feature called Google Lens. Looking at the picture in Google Photos, hit the Google Lens button and it tries to identify what is in the picture. It works "most" of the time. For us amateurs, it is like a park ranger in your phone. It names trees, birds, plants, almost anything. It is wrong sometimes, but we have good luck most of the time. Especially if you crop out everything else.
