#RandomOriole of the day:
Tim Stoddard P
Stoddard is one of only 2 men to have played in the #NCAA #FinalFour and the #WorldSeries (The other being Kenny Lofton who went to the same high school as Tim). Stoddard won the NCAA basketball championship with the #NCstate #Wolfpack during the 1973-74 season starting at power forward. Tim was drafted by the #WhiteSox and appeared in one game for them in 1975. He was cut from the #Chicago organization in 1977 and signed with the O’s prior to the ‘78 season. In 1979 Tim Stoddard became a regular in the O’s bullpen and he was a big part of the pennant winning club in ‘79. In 1980 he had his best season for the Birds as he appeared in 64 games and had 26 saves sharing the closer role with Tippy Martinez. Although he didn’t pitch in the ‘83 Series, Stoddard spent his last season with the O’s in 1983 and got a World Series ring with the club. In 1984 Tim played for the #Chicago #Cubs . Stoddard pitched for the #SanDiego #Padres in 1985 & the beginning of 1986. Tim was traded to the #NewYork #Yankees at the deadline in ‘86 and played there through the ‘88 season. He spent the last season of his career with the #Cleveland #Indians in 1989. Tim Stoddard had a career 41-35 W-L record with a 3.95 ERA, 582 Ks, and 76 saves. Tim appeared as a #Dodger pitcher in the movie “Rookie of the Year”. After his retirement he served as #NorthWestern University’s pitching coach for 22 seasons. He currently serves as the pitching coach for North Central College in Naperville, #Illinois where he has been of the staff since 2016. Tim Stoddard was a solid #pitcher during his time in the #MLB and i’m sure he has helped many young arms that were lucky enough to have him as a coach over the years. I am glad Stoddard was a member of the O’s and he will forever be loved by old-school fans for his time as a dominant reliever during the #OriolesMagic seasons.
