If I had a pound for every time someone called me high maintenance... 🙄🙄 I wasn’t always this way, I used to settle for way less! Then I met someone who taught me to set my standards much higher, and more importantly, he taught me there is NOTHING wrong with that!!
Often we think we should accept a lower standard because we are being fussy or we will be judged (there’s that word again!), but why? Why do we attach a negative connotation to expressing what we actually want? We only have this one life, shouldn’t we be striving to make it the best? Why then do we settle for much less than we actually want?? Be it in relationships, job satisfaction, social life, even with our food!! I remember the first time I went to a restaurant with Jas, he literally made the waiter change the entire meal to suit what he wanted... and I was mortified!! I wanted to bury my head into my bread and olives right there! But he was spot on; what’s the point of ordering and paying for something you don’t actually want?!?! It took me a while, but once I understood this I applied it to EVERYTHING. My relationship with every single person in my life changed forever! Pushover no more - revelation!
But... the issue I still face today is, not everyone delivers the same standard back to me...
You might say my expectations are too high, I say your efforts are too low! How many of you have friendships/relationships where you are a bit disappointed? Do you make more effort than they do? Is it wrong to want more from them, is it wrong to have a higher standard you want them to meet? No, not at all. And I don’t mean in a materialistic way, I’m talking about real effort. Love, values, support.
Now consider this - do they give you less because you’ve accepted less in the past?? It’s important to find a kind and loving way to express your standard. Know your worth & express it! Just don’t be an entitled prick about it, that’s where many fail! And believe me when I say... your life will transform!!! #realtalk
