Gaara, a Shinobi of the sand village, was born with the one tailed Shukaku sand demon inside of him. His mother died giving birth to him. His father hated him. He was a warm, gentle and considerate child but that did not stop his villagers from fearing him as the monster, he would become. .
The fear turned into hate till one day, his father charged his uncle, Gaara’s best friend and mentor with killing him. It was a suicide mission for the uncle and his death turned the boy into a monster. Devastated, Gaara grew up hating the world; a selfish character who justified his own existence by killing anyone and everyone who stood in his way.
All this changed when he fought and was defeated by Naruto Uzumaki, a child born with a demon as well. Naruto was an orphan, hated and feared by everyone but he found strength in his friendships. He believed in his friendships. He fought for his friendships. Gaara had never seen this in his entire life. He was shell shocked.
Everything changed that day. Gaara recognised that his selfish strength paled in comparison to the strength gained from friendship. He realised he had given up on his loved ones and the world too soon. He recognised that he had two siblings that he had taken for granted. He found strength in protecting his friends and loved ones, much like Naruto. In time, he became the leader or Kazikage, of his clan. The youngest in its history. .
Friendship is a powerful thing. Growing up as an only child, my friends became my siblings. They became my family. My home away from home. They are and have always been the one thing that I’ve fought the hardest for. They are also the ones who stuck with me, despite our differences. I may not be a Gaara but you’ve saved me in more ways than you know. You know who you are and I thank the heavens everyday for you.
