NO MORE LIKES.
It’s happening or it’s happened and there’s a mixed feeling around town.
BUT I want to ask, is it actually going to solve anything and is Instagram really trying to reduce the rate of mental health or the pressure of getting likes? I sure hope so.
I think this is a game changer. How many times do you look at your phone out of habit or for that quick dopamine fix after you’ve posted something? Or the feeling of unworthiness when it doesn’t rack up as many likes as you’d hoped it would (whatever that magic number is for you). For me personally I am so happy about this even though the number of likes is still there for you, you just aren’t able to see the ‘number’ on anyone elses post (although you can see the list of accounts if you click on them which makes me think is the problem actually going to be solved)? The issue is the number of people or people of influence that count on that number for their own vanity measure and in turn are consumed with feelings of anxiety, unworthiness, self doubt, depression etc These have been on the rise since the birth of social media and i really do hope that this is the start of something much bigger.
Why don’t they think of actually having a routine shutdown of the app / apps through the day at certain times so people are forced off the app to actually engage with people? Hmm that could be costly but for the sake of humanity? Could be the next big thing!? Let me know what you think @instagram …lol
So for now let’s focus on REAL, Genuine connections - Of course online but when you are with people in person, BE PRESENT. Try to think back to how connected we were pre-social media!! Wow.. what a time.. I obviously am aware that I chose to be a social media coach/manager but I CRAVE connection and being present so much and am really putting in place things to help me implement this.
I’d love to know what you think? I for one am happy. I love CHANGE because it means GROWTH, I just hope it’s progress and growth in the right direction.
Let me know your thoughts!
