Before I start lifting I always do light cardio to warm up. I'll do some band work to avoid injury especially on my shoulders I'll also do some dynamic stretching too. Afterwards I'll do static stretching most of the time in the sauna.

Excited to take my personal training specialist certification exam tomorrow. So at the start of jan i was 20stone 11 lbs, todays weigh in, im 119.3 kg, thats 18 stone 11 lbs. Ive lost 2 stone in 7 weeks while training my arse off and eatting correctly!

@bbcomchallenge week 6 challenge. I'm still a long way away from my goals but I'm making progress and that's what counts! 
As for stretching I take it very seriously. I didn't always beforehand until I had serious issues with my iliotibial band. Now it's stretching before and after followed by a foam roller massage. So I liked when I said I was going to skip #legday 😂 instead I skipped 2 of my workouts that I felt were putting strain on my hurt butt cheek lol so I didn't do walking barbell lunges and 1 leg squats. I did a few other things instead plus everything else i was supposed to do today! I also upped my weight on the #legpress today to 180lbs which I am pretty excited about! Also had a #nsv amd lost some inches since I last measured about 20 days ago! So yay me! 💪🏋🏻‍♀️

Warm up and warm down. I always do both a warm up and warm down. Warm up for me is usually a 1km at a steady pace. At the end of my workouts I stretch as per images. I don't know much about stretching and warm ups but this has worked for me over the past 12 months. Don't mind doing a bit of yoga or pilates either. #bbcomchallengeseries

Holy crap it was hard. It sounded so easy on paper but after a couple rounds it gets you.

I attempted this straight after my push workout which was a bit tough but I got through 229 reps. 
Not great but happy with my first attempt.

I had some down time this afternoon so I decided to run on the elliptical. I haven't been able to workout like I wanted the past few days due to ministry commitments. Today though I hit a new personal best since I retired from the Marines. I haven't ran 3 miles in under 30 minutes since I retired. Today was 28:09. When I was in the Marines I averaged about 24 minutes for my 3 mile. After retirement though I stopped running. Time to keep pushing and get back to 24 minutes or better. My best 3 mile ever was 19:09 at age 22. Not sure if I'll ever get back to that.

Stretching- when and what kind? 
I stretch after every workout for about 10 to 15 minutes. I love using the Precor stretch trainer. I also do floor stretches and use the foam roller for super tight and sore muscles. 
I also attend hot yoga classes 2-3 times a week just for fun! 😜 Yoga is amazing!

Week 6: How and why do I stretch? I approach stretching in two different ways. The first is as shown in the picture. While I don't do it often enough, yoga is a good way to stretch the whole body as well as relax or even energize the body. ⏺️ Another way I stretch is much more function specific. I believe that the majority of stretching should be done only on muscle that actually needs it. For me that is typically my hamstrings, my left piriformis, and my calves. Those are my main trouble areas. ⏺️ Other muscles need stretching occasionally too, especially upon waking! I love that morning chest and shoulders stretch. It's the first thing I do after standing and before going in the other room to lean on the wall. ⏺️ Pro tip, for a stretch to be optimally effective, hold it for at least 15 seconds before relaxing. ⏺️

Week Six: Day Six!

Workouts are complete for the halfway point of the #bbcomchallengeseries and I couldn't be happier. 
I'm so far ahead of where I was this time last year. Last week I was a little bummed out because I didn't have the strength in some of the exercises that I had in previous workouts. 
Turns out I wasn't eating and drinking enough.  Fixed that this week and turned in some impressive workouts that yielded gains without ego lifts. 
Things just felt lighter, especially those dumbbell curls and hammer curls. 
Funny thing is I'm actually getting lighter, too!

As I reflect on the past 7 plus weeks since I began the All Access Bodybuilding.com challenge I realize that I am so thankful for the great changes that are a result of entering this challenge and giving it my all each day. Tonight I decided to make a list of the benefits I’ve experienced as a result of taking control of my health and making my fitness a life habit. The list is as follows:
1. Weight loss- 26 lbs and counting- Body fat 27% to currently 18%. 2. All my clothes fit and my wardrobe is expanding to clothes And styles I’ve wanted to wear but couldn’t. 3. 53 days alcohol free- no cravings- free of hangovers-fogginess- and a waste of time and money 4. Inner peace and hope for my future- not fearful or feeling shame or regret- confidence is escalated 5. Far less isolation- friendlier- focus on others and not myself 6. Spiritually my faith is restored and strong 7. Healthier- more flexible-agile-stronger-faster and less prone to pain and injuries I experienced before 8. Saving money- time is on things that are lasting- working out exercising- not on meaningless- temporal things that do not fill long term voids 8. Happier and more joyful 9. More service to others, my family, students, friends and those in this journey with me 10. Satisfaction in knowing I’m giving my all, finish my day feeling I accomplished so much instead of regret of another day wasted 11. A better husband, father, and man 12. Feel a higher calling to continue this journey life long and encourage others to transform their lives 13. Smarter- I’ve averaged at least 2 audiobooks a week listening during cardio or before bed 14. While these are benefits with myself I can vouch that my family feels the benefit as well 15. A greater appreciation for my family and wife and the sacrifices she makes for me and our family ————- The reality is I can keep going on but the point is that sometimes we need to stop and reflect in order to fully appreciate the blessings we have and the reality that if we put in the positive work we will reap so many positive benefits. We only have one life and each day is an opportunity to give it our best. #bbcomchallengeseries #jymarmy #bodybuildingcom

One year's worth of progress. 
It's around this time last year that I really started seeing results, my transformation had taken off at this point (3 months in). Im actually around the same weight now but feel like I've made a lot of progress. Consistency pays!

For the resolutioners keeping at it for the past two months...dont dig yourself into a hole trying to max weight loss until the 'end' of the competition. Leslie Sansone’s Walk It Off in 30 Days dvd - Burn 30 - 30 minutes(2 miles) with 3 pound hand weights for the entire time. I really love this workout so I will do this dvd for 30 days. Theirs 2 workouts on it. Burn 30 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Firm 30 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Sunday maybe something else or I’ll take a rest day but I doubt that will happen as I don’t want to miss a day.

Did my chest workout of #4weeks2shred today. Ate almost all of my calories at dinner because I basically forgot to eat all day. #unintentionalintermittentfasting (can’t believe that’s already a hashtag!) Glad the week is over! I took the day off from work and did my workouts on my own time. Shoulders, calves, and abs in the morning. Then cardio in the afternoon. I can get used to this kind of freedom...but it’s back to work on Monday. 😒

Halfway on the #bbcomchallengeseries by @jimstoppani And @bodybuildingcom.

Getting some sweet progress but self doubt can't help but rear it's head when I see all the amazing progress everyone else is acheiving. After doing a body scan a month apart I'm still proud of how far I've come despite still having the overwhelm of how far I'm still yet to go. 
Although I don't comment on other people's journeys with this challenge or even follow on the gram, but to all the challengers out their, the fit fam, keep killing it. Although the competitive side of me wants to out do all of ya... I want you yo keep slaying. 
Two people in the challenge in particular that drive me to change is @nevergiveupdada And @farmerfitjourney . Dada's journey to date and outlook on life is nothing short of inspiring and seeing Declan, a fellow Victorian win the challenge last year released a major mental block that made me give up within 2 weeks every other time I've tried these challenges (3 times before now). Thanks heaps fam. 
As tough at it has been... it's just gonna get tougher. And although I want that $50k badly... the real prize at the end is the change in my mental, emotional and physical state.

@bodybuildingcom Weekly challenge - stretching is a must before, during and after. I must admit to not doing a lot of old school static stretching. I have grown to love the foam rollers, shakti mats and massage balls but my absolute fav is taking in a body balance class and getting that mix of yoga, tai chi and pilates...stretching while getting a sweat on and then relaxation at the end... Love it!

Felt really strong today. Had a good refeed the last few days to catch up my calories. I hadn't quite been eating enough earlier in the week coupled with two a day trainings I was wrecked. But today I felt great. 
Went up in all the exercises comfortably.
And threw in a few extra an exercises. 
Then did the 19.1 from the Crossfit games open afterwards.
Will post that video later.

Now I need to eat!
