I realized I moved right down the street from a Guitar Center, so one day I walked over to play some of their fancy basses. A homeless man had the same idea.
We played to ourselves beside each other for about a half hour until he yells over at me “You’re holding the neck wrong! That’s gonna fuck you up!”.
At first I was all “excuse me old man?!”, but I knew his unsolicited advice was true.. My left hand was gripping the neck for dear life, and I always felt this made it harder for me to move with speed.
All this to say, for the last couple months I’ve been focusing on retraining myself. Since I taught myself to play using just YouTube videos, it was easy for me to skip the formalities. I was only plucking with one finger, and my left hand wasn’t holding the bass in the correct position. I knew if I was serious about playing, I had to re-teach myself before this caused more trouble.
Sometimes lessons come from the most unexpected teachers 🌞 Sometimes a step backwards is necessary to move forward. This homeless dude could seriously slap some bass, so I knew he was a blessing in disguise 🤙🏾 I’m so excited to share some more videos with you all!! Thanks for showing so much support and love on my journey 🥰😎🤗 - 5 hours ago
