Shoulders and Back! 💪

Form is SO important when you're lifting weights! Even light weights 🏋🏼 There are a lot of tiny muscles in your back and shoulders that don't need super heavy weights to be worked. You just need to have the right form! ▶️BB Military Press: draw a slight curve when raising the bar. This stops you from hitting your face/head and also brings the bar to be directly above you working your lower body for stability. ▶️Bent Rows: drive the bar into your hips while bringing your shoulder blades together, keeping your shoulders down. Keep your head in line with your back to avoid any strain. 
With both back and shoulders you want to keep your shoulders back and pushed down. You may have to back off on the weights but that just means you're directing the work to the right muscles. Otherwise larger muscle groups may start to take over...and that's how injuries happen!

Today was the day to go for 200kg for 5 reps💪🏻unfortunately I only managed 4. Was still a PB for 200kg at 91kg but bitter sweet. Ran out of steam in my hamstrings. As promised, I went in to the gym for a 4 sets of 4 reps of 190 kg deadlift. That proved tough. I managed 3x3 of 190 kg and a last set of 4 reps at 190 kg. So I've hit 80 to 85 % of my target. Proud lifter :)
Next target, 4x4 of 200 kg. This one is going to be FUN TOUGH. But not impossible!
I've put in body snapshots just to show how good things are looking by just heavy lifting without dieting. Win win :)

These are some burnout exercises I used on my glutes and arms day!
-
First video: Bicep curls (keep chest high shoulders back and arms at your side.
Second video: shoulder press (core engaged, feet planted, wrists straight.)
Third video: upright row (shoulders back and not using momentum)
Fourth video: one arm tricep pushdown (keep your arm straight slightly in front of your waist. Keep your wrist straight as well)
Fifth video: one arm cable pull down (try to imagining squeezing a grape between your shoulder blades, this helps me engage my back.)

I love doing multiple variations of a bent over row throughout my training to switch it up a bit.
Barbell bent over row is a CORE exercise but here are a few ASSISTANCE variations of a bent over row:
- cable bent over row (as shown)
- dumbbell bent over row (can be done single armed or double)
- close grip cable bent over row
- EZ bar bent over row
-I always do the barbell rows once a week, and I rotate through the assistance variations every week!!

For lat pulldowns in this video I chose to do a lil lighter weight (still at about 70-80% max) for 4 sets with a higher rep range to work on hypertrophy gains/muscular endurance

As always, remember to breathe correctly. Notice how controlled my reps are (especially on the lowering phase of my bent over rows)

the pic was the first day back to the gym in about a week. last week was rough for me. i was super busy with work (multiple jobs), late nights, lack of sleep (ya know, stress 🙄) it was hard to me to have that motivation to go to the gym at 530am to lift. my body was tired. & because i didn’t go to the gym, i felt guilty. i had to remind myself that life happens and it’s okay that i didn’t make it 4 days last week. truth is, i made it 1 day. but i did other things to stay active. walks on lunch everyday. workout in the work gym. activities with the pups. 
i made the best out of my super busy week. and i’m done beating myself up over the fact i didn’t make it to the gym 4 days. sometimes it’s just not possible. and that is okay ❤️

Bent over barbell rows are a great exercise for building thickness in the back. Bigger compound movements allow for more overload on the muscles because of greater load the muscles is put under by the weight. .

With any rowing motion you perform, you want to initiate the movement from your shoulders by retracting your scapula and then leading the rest of the movement with your elbows. This will ensure the tension is focused on the muscles in your back rather than your arms .

I’ve been working on my handstands for awhile now. Even though I don’t have it down just yet...I am definitely stronger and smarter. 🤓 
I’m not just hoping I’ll magically land a handstand, though that’ll be pretty cool. But rather understand what muscles are needed and why you need to do specific exercises. 🦄 
Stop going to the gym and completing a workout without really understanding your real goal. It’s more than just “up and down”. Or “go upside down”. Or “just kick your legs up”. 🙅🏻‍♀️

Let me tell you...pull ups were the workout I hated the most 🚫🔥
✅quick tip! When doing a proper pull-up you come all the way down and back up passed the bar. 
Also try keeping a grip a little wider then your shoulders width and come straight down I find it easier and feel it alot more in my late.
