This added an extra challenge for my speed workout on the track today. But I embraced the challenge, knowing that it's the hard things which make us stronger. And as an additional benefit, I found that squashing little ice balls under my Nikes is quite fun.

With the name of Episode 5 in the @thisismorethanfootball docuseries bearing the name Perseverance, its only fitting that my guys out in Colorado Brandon Payer (@brandonpayer) and Jahair Jones (@m2m_shaq) ran personal bests in the 40 yard dash last week. Payer ran 4.68 down from 4.90 day one, and Jahair ran 5.28 down from 5.59 on day one. My guy Brayton Medina (@bigmedina) Ran a 5.49 down from 5.68 on day one.

When life as an athlete comes to an end, it feels like it happened TO us. Especially if an injury or unexpected event sidelined us. 

We feel anything but in control of our ending.

But with time, resilience, & courage  and a hefty dose of accountability, support, & community  it becomes easier to take ownership of our story & rewrite the ending we thought was thrust upon us.

以ow I Gained 15lbs of Muscle and Lost 5% Bodyfat  
In high school, I was the girl who was fairly athletic. I have always been able to gain muscle relatively easily, however my sophomore year I hit a slump. I dropped 10lbs and went from thin and athletic to weak and underweight. I got sick constantly and had zero energy. 
During my journey, I had relapses, went back to my old ways of eating less than 1200 calories per day. I questioned my self worth and I questioned myself. Was I doing this right? What did I really want? How did I really want to look? 
It wasnt until I put down Pinterest and picked up DLBs RelPurpose trainer that I realized that being strong was what I wanted. I didnt want to be skinny, I wanted to be ripped. I didnt want to wear clothes like a clothes hanger, I wanted to fill them out in all the right places. So I changed my vision. 
The five steps I am going to list below got me to where I am today. Take the experience that I have gone through and implement it into your goals. The best part about learning from someone who has already gone through it is that you can get to the goal faster than they did, because you can avoid some of the struggles they had to endure. Implement these steps to get started today: 
1. Pick up some freaking weights girl. Put down the pink dumbbells and pick up some iron. 
2. Challenge your body on a regular basis. If its hard, do it more often. Challenge=change 
3. Keep your diet interesting. Shoot for 80 clean/20 loose. This will help prevent binges and help you lean out. 
4. Eat enough! If you think you can gain those curves by eating 1200 calories per day, girl you have another thing coming. Find out what your BMR is, multiply that by 1.5. That will give you a starting calorie baseline. Need help? DM me and Ill get ya started. 
5. Stop comparing yourself. Remember that social media shows the highlight reels. Just because Suzie looks ripped year-round doesnt mean she actually is. Tammy might have the body you crave but she is 6 inches taller than you and built completely differently. 
Dont dim your light by comparing it to others.

One more day in snowy YYC before I get to spend a weekend doing an intense fencing training camp at @dynamofencing in YVR!  Its hard for me to get focused training done in fencing because fencing programs are always in the evenings, mostly after Abigails bedtime. Training camps mean entire days dedicated to focusing on training, and I love being able to fully immerse myself in it 內
Also I cant wait for Vancouver sushi! @parapentbob and @jersporthorse please tell me we get to crush some sushi this weekend??

I take my nutrition just as seriously as my training. You cant get healthier, stronger, or better if youre eating anything and everything at will without thinking about consequences down the road.

 That goes for supplementation as well. If youre taking something just to take it because you think it does this, or this is what the label says youre not doing yourself any favors. Ive used a wide variety of brands when it comes to protein powders and such. Some of them tasted decent but left weird side affects like bloating, gas, after taste, etc. However, @1stphorm does not have any of those side affects plus its the best tasting by far.

I love that God brought me back to diving and allowed me to walk through this major setback (cervical fusion). That may sound crazy, but its given me the opportunity to dig deep and relearn all of the critical skills I picked up during my career as an Olympic athlete.

And Im not just having to recall and relearn those skills. Im having to walk them out over and over. Im having to get my hands and feet dirty and walk through the trenches yet again.

It can be a dark and bleak place- the sidelines, the bench. Its a journey you often have to take all alone. You have to sort through every emotion, fleeting feeling and desperate thought because theres no escaping that constant voice in your head and your heart.

But Ive been there so many times that I no longer see it as dark or bleak. I can see the hope and the light that this dark place leads to.

The funny thing is.. I didn't know I needed all these changes because it was just the life I was living every day. I didn't know there was anything better or another way.

I love well-run group exercise classes: They're fun, motivating, and build community. The trade-off, of course, is individual attention, which can be hard for an Instructor to provide in a group setting.

Enter: #MixItUpMondayML, where we deconstruct a movement/posture and look at adjustments that can decrease pain and increase work. NOTE: This doesnt mean make it easier - it literally means finding options that help you get stronger AND reduce likelihood of injury. No brainer, right? RED FLAG: If your instructor teases/nags/guilts you for adjusting the movement圩ind a new instructor.

First up: Mountain Climbers (slow demo in first video). I dont love em, but youll often see them in a GX class to build upper body and trunk/core strength while keeping HR high.

If you feel: Too tired to sustain the duration

Try this (Visual 1): SLOW DOWN. Speed can hide weakness - definitely the case here. Slow down to catch your breath and get more muscle burn. Inhale hold plank/Exhale knee to elbow. Repeat.

If you feel: Pain in your wrists

Try this (Visual 2): Scroll back and read this post from Nov 4 - lotsa wrist tips!

If you feel: Shoulder or back pain, side-to-side shift

Try this (Visual 3): Prop your hands up. In a GX setting, look for a bench, a box (for box jumps), chair, or even the wall. Go as high as you need to feel stable, and bring knees toward elbows, without worrying about the TOUCH (overrated, unnecessary).

OR this: Use a knee plank (Visual 4). Or start in quadruped (Visual 5) and slightly adjust the movement: Lift one bent leg out to the side, pull knee slightly to shoulder, release, return.

If you feel: Shoulder pain, or just extra groovy

If you're on a budget but still want great food choices, use frozen items to your advantage! 

Fresh fruits and vegetables can go bad quicker than expected (especially if your traveling) and are typically more expensive. Choose some frozen items that have MINIMAL easy-to read INGREDIENTS. These are quick to make after practice and provide some great nutrition packed meals. ALSO, freeze any fresh item that you think may go bad before you can use it up. I like doing this with avocados (ughs my timing is rarely right with these), spinach 它, bananas  and zucchini!

Recent study showing a comparison between manual therapy and surgery interventions for Carpal tunnel syndrome. Participants under went 3 manual therapy sessions or surgery. What was found was that manual therapy was equally effective in treating CTS and required less appointments overall. Manual therapy also was more cost effectiveeffective,  costing less and requiring less missed work.
