It's #internationalwomensday on the 8th of March and to celebrate, I'm teaming up with my dear friend @kristinduffy_actor and her company @slacklineproductions to offer a low-cost Yoga Class. The class will be #ashtanga based and our theme is going to be 'Body Positivity'. Though Slackline Productions is actor/performance-focussed, we’re excited to offer this inspiring class to you, regardless of profession!
I love this quote from Mallorie Dunn which aptly explains the #bodypositivity movement. "It means accepting the body you have as well as the changes in shape, size, and ability it may undergo due to nature, age, or your own personal choices throughout your lifetime. It's the understanding that your worth and what's going on with you physically are two separate entities — that no matter what's happening inside, outside, or to your body, you're still just as worthwhile as the person next to you.”
Unfortunately, a pervasive part of our society is one which serves ill-health yet expects 'perfect' health from you. Whilst it is one thing to admirably and wisely work hard to achieve your health goals and attain a healthy body, it is quite another to damn your body and yourself as 'worthless' or 'not good enough' until it reaches the imagined 'ideal' that perpetuates your timeline, tv and targeted advertising (everywhere). Your ideal may never actually be physically achievable, this includes beauty 'standards'. Why not take a revolutionary stand with us on this important day to celebrate and accept yourself and your body for what it is, right now!
The entertainment industry has a responsibility to represent body diversity, especially for young people and this is our humble contribution towards that.
Often, we don't appreciate things until they're taken away from us. We may sometimes neglect the capability of the legs, the relentlessness of the heart, the capacity of the breath of life or the complexity of every part working effortlessly together in the simplicity of being. With every breath we will connect more deeply to our true self, at the core of that body of ours, our home (for now).
