Sometimes if our body are being pressed, twisted, stretched and squeezed, your nerves send a tingling sensation and unnatural reaction to your inner body. Twisting may compress our breathing and spine since rotation are applied in a distorted and curled way. It is these factors that taught us to not to surrender to our comfort zone for too long in our practice, that our body are flexible and adaptable to different changes and pressure for the betterment of our health, stronger mind control and allowing room to improve on the easiness our breathing

Last Rocket 3 🚀 @405yoga today 😢 It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to this studio. It’s where I was introduced to Rocket and found the yoga practice that spoke to my soul. It encouraged me to pursue my 200 hour teacher training. I will miss this community, I will miss these teachers. But I know great things are around the corner 😀

Are any poses that opened up a world of knowledge for you?

I had a student today who asked for shoulder-opening work. I told her, "Great! We'll work on opening up and strengthening the hamstrings." She looked at me like I was crazy, like I couldn't possibly have heard her correctly 🤨. Like, bish I said *shoulders*

I giggled and explained that often tight shoulders result from overcompensating with the upper back when we don't properly engage our core to stabilize ourselves during movement, which also often results in weaker and tighter hamstrings. Opening up one can open up the other 🤔🧐

We practiced a simple movement of engaging the toes, knees, inner thighs, sacrum and belly before lifting the arms on an inhale and releasing them on an exhale. I could see the wheels turning inside. It never occurred to her to use her legs to lift her arms 🤯. And for nearly all of my life, it hadn't occurred to me either. Which is why I've had more than my fair share of upper back pain. *
I could have said the words all day, but she only learned it because she *felt* it. Yoga is so rooted in felt experience. If you haven't felt it, you don't truly know it.

But once you know that one little thing you didn't know before, other poses open up to you pretty quickly. Like this wide legged forward fold for me. Last year, I could barely get my head past my hips in this pose. The most I could hope for was to hold the position without holding my breath or wanting to cry from all that hip and neck release. So. Many. Emotions. Stored. There. *
It was hard to bear. I stuck with this pose, not because I cared how I looked while I was in it (although I admit I was in awe of folks who could get their heads between their legs 😯). I stuck with it because every time I entered it, no matter how much it challenged me, I felt better afterward. I felt lighter. Freer. More open. Just like my student felt today, with something as simple as a conscious arm lift.

Now, I can get my head to the floor! 💪🏾 And the only emotions that flow through me in this pose are relief, gratitude and joy. It feels so good, I even dance when I get in to it 😁. Drop a line if you've been there before ⤵️.
