What do you get when you mix #contemporary art with #VR / #AR ?
The #startup founded in 2017 by Jacob Koo, specialises in virtual reality designed to democratise the art experience, #collaborating with renowned contemporary #artists and #museums to make rare #exhibits easily accessible to global #audiences .
In partnership with the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), VRt disrupted the traditional culture of art viewership by turning James Marshall’s acclaimed Mastry exhibition into a free immersive experience, viewable on #samsunggear VR.
Through a combination of laser scanning and volumetric photogrammetry, audiences were able to virtually walk through #galleries . The app also contains guided narrations to educate viewers, provide context and share an inside glimpse into the inspiration behind each piece from the artist’s POV.
Koo who has been deeply involved in the art world for years, was keen to conceptualise a way to merge his two passions of #technology and art. Koo saw how many people loved and admired art but noticed how few people got to #experience it in person. With this knowledge he wanted to create a sustainable business that would educate, enlighten and open people up to the art world. He states that demonstrating value was difficult at first, mostly because it was hard to communicate what he was offering in a way artists could understand. However, after Mastery received record attendance Koo demonstrated that VR does have a place within the art world and showcased the capabilities of VR.
While Orbispace is creating a #virtualspace that has an infinite amount of possible applications from #education , #infrastructure , #aid , #entertainment and more, we also intend Orbispace to be used as a collaborative platform and a place of cultural exchange. Wouldn’t it be great for #refugee artists to collaborate with #curators at the Lourve and have global audiences view their work inside the Orbispace?!? -Liz
