These are my predictions for how I believe the Wild Card races will play out, and the games themselves.
For the American League, I’ve got the defending champion Red Sox defeating Tampa Bay. Both of these teams are from the AL East, which is definitely the best division in that league. Boston is just better than Tampa Bay. Not bagging on the Rays, but Boston has playoff experience, and ridiculous talent. I expect them to advance to the divisional round.
In the NL, we’ve got the Braves visiting the Cardinals. I believe the Cardinals will have a better regular season than Atlanta, but Atlanta is still a better team. The Braves play in a division that isn’t necessarily better, but deeper than St. Louis’, with 4 good teams instead of 3, and maybe the Reds. Either way, I’ve got my money on Atlanta, with their electric offense in the one game playoff. Projected MVP Acuña should feast in this game as Atlanta looks to avenge last season’s postseason woes.
For the races, some of them should be exciting. In the AL, Oakland, and maybe the Angels could make it, but outside of that I don’t see any legitimate contenders. However, the NL is a different story. There are 5-6 teams that can very realistically pick up one of these spots. Most notably, Milwaukee didn’t make it after their memorable season last year. Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they did, but I just don’t see them having the same amount of regular season success.
Next Up: Divisional Round
