Another month nearly over and another 10k in the bag!
At the beginning of the year I was planning to build up to doing a 10k in October. Then I found myself signing up for one at the end of January with only three weeks to train. Once I survived that unscathed, I decided why not do one for each month of 2019.
I can think of a few reasons why not, but I’m attempting it anyway. 3 down, 9 to go!
Today was freaking awesome - my favourite yet! The only thing that would have made it better is if @katie_louise_burton could have been there. However I was blessed to have @carolannreidcoach by my side the whole way. And she must have been channeling Katie because part way round she said, “I reckon we can do it in 1:24.” I scoffed, mainly because I was too out of breath to laugh.
Well, we finished in 1:24:55 and when I text Katie she said she would have aimed to get me round in sub 1:25. So the universe heard and made me work for it!
And it turns out that I have a new strategy for hills. We got to the last one and Carol-Ann said to picture something nice waiting for me at the top. So I shouted, “Chris Evans!” (Captain America I hasten to add!) before belting it up to the top.
We crossed the line together victorious, although Carol-Ann was given the wrong goodie bag and now has a blingier medal than me.
I want to thank Carol-Ann for getting me around the course and all the volunteers including the marshals, the Cubs, Beavers and Scouts on water duty and the little girl who was handing out Jelly Babies around the 8km mark! She was my favourite! Oh, and to the lady who shouted to me as I was on the final stretch, “One last push for Alzheimer’s!” That didn’t make me cry at all!
It was also great to see everyone again. We all chat virtually everyday, but it’s great when we get to meet up in person and have a laugh.
Now on to the next challenge... #wilmslow10k #10kamonth #runbitchrun #teamshitrunner #neverdoingahalf #alzheimerssociety #alzheimersawareness #dementiaawareness - 4 hours ago
