Y'all know I believe heavily in transparency. I believe you can't be relatable if you're not honest.
Having said that, I'm sharing news we were given today in hopes you'll lift up prayers or just send positive energy our way.
Most people know we adopted our sweet Isla Hope at birth. We weren't looking to adopt, but God sent her to us. We found out about her in September of 2017 and she was born 3 months later.
Her biological mother used drugs. Meth, Pot, etc... Isla was born with these in her system but looked and appeared normal with the exception of some aspiration issues early on and she was a tired little stoner baby as the nurses called her for a good week or so. She also survived 2 abortion attempts prior to birth, so this little girl is a walking miracle. .
We've started to notice over the past few months that she wasn't doing things developmentally as her peers. We've observed but hoped it was just stubbornness because let's face it, she's stubborn like her Mumma! She JUST started walking, she can only say 3 words, she can't say a sentence, she doesn't follow any kind of direction, etc..
Today at her 18 month appointment we were told that this is what is called Drug Related Developmental Delay. This often doesn't start to show up until babies are 12-18 months, and today she's 18 months old.
We're now being referred to early intervention services. She'll start with PT and OT and then we'll add in Speech when she turns 2 in December. We're not just a little delayed, we're at the point where they consider it significant delay. .
This is something we knew before agreeing to adopt her that could happen, we honestly expected her to be born with SIGNIFICANT issues and God spared her that. He's had his hand on her since conception and I know he will see her through.
I've always said there is no testimony without a test. He will use whatever this brings to glorify him. I'm confident of that. It doesn't make it easy as we've all been upset today at this news & tears have been shed. We're trusting in Him though. .
