Next Sunday! This class offers the benefits of yoga using a chair as a prop. Clients will be able to work on their balance, strength, deep breathing and flexibility with a bit more support. This class is good for anyone who is de-conditioned, has not had much exercise in their lifetime or the older adult who wants to age active,  strong and graceful to help maintain independence. We are super excited to introduce  Iron Yoga to our class schedule effective April 1. Hosted by a seasoned Yoga professional Steph Johnston @stef.johnstons. Many of our existing clients will recognize Steph as she is no stranger to our Team Training classes at SminkFIT. Class will run at 7 p.m. every Monday and is available exclusively to all existing Silver, Gold, and Platinum team training members. Iron Yoga is a 60 minute, strength based practise performed using small weights. It is a challenging, full body workout that focuses on body-alignment and proper breathing techniques.
The use of weights adds an extra element of strength, stamina and body awareness to each Class. Detailed verbal cueing throughout each Class allows attendees of all levels to participate with or without a prior knowledge of Yoga. Attendees may choose to do the Class without weights if desired. My son doesn’t always get to come first.
I love being “Wyatt’s Mom” but there's also a person inside of me named Marta who realized long ago that if she died to herself to only be a mom, she would be doing a disservice to herself, her son, and the rest of the world because being a mom is just one part of who I have been over the last 9 years. I need my son to know I am more than his maid, cook, and taxi driver. I wear a lot of hats and sometimes I can’t stay at a birthday party, or attend a hockey game and I need to miss a tea party with the other moms and he needs to understand that it's okay when those things happen because I still love him like crazy, but I also have to live outside of being a mom. I want my child to see me as me. I want him to understand that dying to myself doesn’t make me a better parent. It’s just a matter of time before he will be grown up and go out on his own and I will still be here. And if I die to myself, I'm not going to have any idea of who I am when my kid is 18 years old. I want my son to know who I am outside of his mom. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t tell him that being his mom is one of my favourite things to do and that I love him, but I would be doing a disservice to him if he didn't know who I am as Marta. So if you are out there and you are struggling like we all do, and you are worried that you have died to yourself, don’t worry. You are still in there and it’s not too late to take some time to figure out who you are and put it back together. Your children need to know who you are outside of being their mom. Don’t be afraid to show them all the wonderful and silly parts of you they are missing out on! Take that holiday with your girlfriends. Book a staycation with your significant other. Take off for the weekend and enjoy too much wine…. It’s okay to tell your kids you have a hangover and you are in no condition to adult. Show them you are not perfect and let THEM take care of you for one day and still trust you are a rockstar mom! SLEEP IN. Drink some water. Go to the gym… Be YOU.

Crazy workouts? Daredevil stunts? No pain no gain? Living at the limits? Nooooooooo! That’s not what I do on a regular basis or ever. At the foundation of my lifestyle is a recognition that however busy I think I am, whatever priorities or deadline exist, however tired I feel, one of my priorities is & should always be to do some movement snacks or training everyday. These should be varied. These should make me feel good, re-energized & smile. I don’t strive to feel “destroyed” after my training, I don’t resonate to “beast mode”, I dislike the words & philosophy. 
Today I’m tired after working & driving a lot yesterday. My mind would like to do kettlebells but my body needs something more gentle. I’ll walk for nearly 2 hours by the end of the day with Pax 🐕, & that’s all good. .
This was a little 4 minute movement snack I did. Really wobbly on the balance & slow to get going on the curtsy squats. That’s me, I’m not perfect, I’m working in things, I’m doing a little & seeing how I feel. 
And it felt good to get outside in the sun & gently move. I hope you do too. .
Enjoy your movement snack whether it's one minute or 10. Bite sized workouts to create sustainable strength and healthy habits. If you do it, tell me how you felt afterwards.

We know what it feels like to be really busy. To think "of course I want to move more but I dont have time...". We've all been there. At Movement Snacks we know that a 10 minute movement snack  can give you a complete state change in terms of mood, mobility and strength. You'll end up  happier and healthier from this type of snack. Today we invite you to get even a one minute snack in based on this past week's IG live workout. The move this past week we know you'll enjoy exploring has bene the curtsey squat. See how it feels to do a few of these followed by some single leg deadlifts with a cross leg raise, ended up with some crawling, knees down or up depending on where you're at. .

I was 15 years old when I immigrated to Canada, and the experience left me feeling lost, distraught, and confused on my purpose in life... I lost my confidence, direction, and even a desire to live as a result of being bullied... I turned to Fitness and I can honestly say that it has saved my life. It has upgraded my mind, body, and spirit. It has given me confidence, pride in who I am, the body I have always wanted as well as the tools and skills to help others. Fitness has given me a full-time career that doesn't feel like work because I love what I do.
The thing about Fitness is that it bleeds into and effects the entirety of your life. I have seen clients get promotions, conceive babies after being told they were never going to become parents, build and repair relationships, start dating again, increase their income, gain confidence like never before, have energy like never before and reduce pain to play with their kids. I have seen clients become influencers to people around them. I have seen clients become more present around family and friends. All by making Fitness a priority in their lives. You are no exception. Fitness will change your life once you make it a priority. I've seen people spend their lives waiting for the right time and then they're hit with some medical problems. See, the right time doesn't exist. All you have is the time that is given to you right now. This is why I invest a lot of my time, energy, and $$$$$ to continually improve myself and my own fitness. I do this because my clients come to me for accountability, motivation and inspiration and I always want to give them the very best of what I can. Yesterday I spent my entire day with my brothers and sisters in training  learning new techniques to stay on top of my game and by doing so, improve the way i train others. Thanks to @drew_miller_kbpt for an outstanding workshop. Dying today after 6 hours of kettlebell play.... but so worth it.

Of course this is a foundational concept... but it serves as an important reminder.  If you've been doing the same program at the same intensity for a while, adaptations... aka improvements, will stall.  Our bodies are always looking for the easiest path to get through life.  They default to conserving energy for survival.  So if you want those BIG CHANGES... you have to make BIG CHANGES... and KEEP THOSE CHANGES COMING!  Continued improvements in your physique means you can never be satisfied or comfortable for too long.  Absolutely, once you hit a level you are happy with you can enter maintenance mode.  Until then... keep adding weight, working harder.. adding intensity.. and force your body and its built in adaptation engine too burn on all cylinders!

MRS: Getting back to that fateful drive after MR retired: I thought we were at the top of our game. In love, devoted, dedicated---that was us. Hah! My emotions smoldered while MR simmered just under a boil. My pride was as damaged as my brain was addled. The fact that our marriage could derail so easily left me shaken. Pilates has so many benefits for us as we age and it’s been such a pleasure to see this first hand with one of my clients, a wonderful lady in her late 80s.  After just a few sessions she’s moving so much more confidently and says she can walk faster and no longer needs to use her arms to help her get up off the sofa. Building strength in the Glutes is especially important after knee replacement. The knee often falls victim of weak hips. We are perfecting her hip flexion/extension so she can continue traveling, photography and all the other fun things she likes to do.
