“100 out of 100 relationships that involve caregiving fail.” - Dr. Phil
F A I L I N G H A R D
100 out of 100 times you have wiped my tears as I fight my battles.
100 out of 100 times I have offered my help in honour of your strength.
100 out of 100 times we have gently dismantled the walls that shelter shame in our hearts.
100 out of 100 times we have played the hard mirror, holding ourselves and each other to the light of self truth.
100 out of a 100 times we have been swept up in the currents of Important Things, only to find the tempered shores of All That Really Matters.
100 out of 100 times we have been unprepared for the journey, and welcomed each robust moment together.
100 out of 100 times we have grown, and we have grown, and oh my heart how we have grown.
100 out of 100 times we have raised our children in the light of compassion, of equality and empathy, of seeing beyond the surface.
100 out of 100 times we have been free to leave, but we have always chosen love.
100 out of 100 times, and our legacy rippling outward in gratitude.
100 out of a 100 times, blessed. ️ Dear @drphil ,
Caregiving is not a marker of relationship dysfunction, nor is it a designation of martyrdom brought into being by burden. It is a part of us all.
It is what shapes our first memories as we look to our mother’s breast.
It is a last exhale as we hold a loved one’s hand through the great exit.
It is what opens our eyes to the variety of human experience and need outside ourselves; a connection that teaches us to honour ourselves and each other whether as companion, friend, family, or the love of a lifetime.
I sincerely hope that, by your own words and standards, you get to fail half as much as I have in my relationship and marriage.
100 out of 100 times.
Love you so much, @heathhorejda. ️🏻Thank you to @shaneburcaw and @hannahayl whose video we watched to learn about this, as well as @mattieplummer and @bethanyroseplummer for the post that got the ball rolling. ️️️
