The lack of access to information technology on reservations is a significant hurdle to Native Americans trying to gain employment in the current technology-driven economy. It is a part of our mission to provide that access to our students.

If you've washed your hair with shampoo, cleaned your laundry with detergent, or bought a soft drink from a vending machine, chances are you've encountered single-use #plastics. But what happens when you're done using them?
Recycling rates for #single-use plastic packages across the country vary due to many factors, including #accessibility of #recycling centers

94% of US living in communities with a pop of more than 125K have recycling programs available to them

29.9% polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles and jars (like bottle juice or mayo jar) are #recycled

30% of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic bottles, like milk jugs or laundry detergent bottles, are recycled

Still, many plastics are not being #recycled and both #consumers and companies are looking for ways to use less plastic and help increase recycling rates

Here’s what some companies are doing:

Reducing the amount of plastic needed to complete a package

Using recycled plastics to produce new packaging

Increasing use of #bioplastics, made from #renewable resources such as corn or sugarcane, which makes it #biodegradable

If we didn’t use these plastics, the alternatives would likely be to use #cans or #glass, which can mean heavier transport loads, plastic liners and potentially more #energy consumption

#sustainability #sustainablesolutions #savetheplanet #recycle #reduce #reuse #futureofplastics #climate #packaging #green #ecofriendly

ACM believes in community-care. Self-care is important, *and* the emphasis on self-care as a solution to systemic problems in white supremacist capitalism is disturbing and manipulative. We cannot discuss self-care without first recognizing that self-identified women and femmes—especially Black/Indigenous/people of color—are disproportionately responsible for care work. .
We cannot discuss self-care without acknowledging that we are wounded and traumatized by systemic oppression and then expected, as individuals, to purchase goods and services in order to heal. That self-care when we are poor, disabled, sick, BIPOC, queer, (and the ways these intersect) is not always possible and that we cannot survive using a self-care model.
.
Self-care as a model of individualistic healing perpetuates the isolation and death of those of us that cannot individually care for ourselves; for those of us whose ancestors and communities have used community-care models for generations; and in the end, harms most of us. It supports white culture and supremacy, capitalism, ableism, and heteronormative patriarchy.
.
Community-care invites us to be interdependent, to hold the most marginalized, to recognize our collective humanity. Community-care means recognizing privilege and power and brings invisible femme, feminine, BIPOC, and disabled labor to the forefront.
.
.
Community-care understands that many of us deal with mental and physical illness as a result of systemic oppression and environmental racism and holds the grief and fear we have as multiply marginalized folks with disabilities. Ultimately, community-care means Disability Justice (framework founded and led by disabled, Black/Indigenous/people of color queers).

Ever since this pesky break in my foot occurred, I’ve been thinking more and more about accessibility for individuals who are disabled. I realize now that society still has a lot of work to do to create inclusive spaces for all. Beaches shouldn’t just be places for people with a specific body type. In the past I’ve used the hashtag #AllBodiesAreBeachBodies in reference to weight/size, but I realize now that it is applicable to so much more than that. 🌊☀️⛱ I’m so proud that Frankfort Beach is an incredibly accessible place, with a sidewalk that leads right to the water with benches and beach sites right off the path the entirety of the beach, as well as handicap restrooms. ♿️ Can you folks think of other ways to make spaces more accessible for all? I know as a community we could do more for individuals who are visually impaired, but I’d love to hear what else you think.

После моего упоминания недоступного входа в хорошие рестораны
@kharitonov.resto.beer и
@16_54

How Recruiting Diverse Talent Can Make Tech More Accessible by @nyrue24 on Code Like A Girl ⠀
"Individuals living with disabilities are often overlooked in the tech world, even if they are qualified to work within it. People with physical or mental disabilities that affect their ability to interact socially might be passed over or underestimated because they don’t “look the part” of what employers in the tech sector are used to seeing.⠀
However, employers can turn this trend around if they take a good, long look at their hiring practices and make the changes necessary to make the field more diverse and inclusive for all people who want to make their mark on the world of technology.⠀
A Conspicuous Lack of Diversity⠀
As many industries begin to embrace diversity and the benefits it brings, the tech sector has fallen behind noticeably. Silicon Valley has historically had problems hiring people of color, women, and people with disabilities. While upstander culture is starting to gain a lot of traction across different industries, tech companies are still reticent when it comes to hiring people with disabilities (PWDs).⠀
Many major tech companies like Twitter, Apple, and Intel don’t even include PWDs in their public diversity reporting. One of the major reasons for this lack of reporting stems from the fact that employees must volunteer information regarding disabilities. Despite this putting a damper on a tech company’s ability to provide information regarding how many employees live with disabilities, it doesn’t prevent them from completely excluding the information they do have access to. That is a conscious decision being made by these companies.⠀
Though there is a huge variety of resources available to PWDs who want to either start their own business or find a lucrative career, employment in the tech sector should not be seen as an unachievable goal. Instead, tech companies should recognize that they have an issue when it comes to employing PWDs and address it accordingly. In turn, this would make the tech sector far more inclusive and accessible." #accessibility #diversity #tech #technology #stem #careers #inclusive #disabilities #business #businesssuccess

So, my husband, along with a bunch of members of the @good_4_gaming community that I am part of had been plotting a surprise for me for almost a month now. They all pitched in and got me an @xbox Adaptive Controller and a @3drudder foot controller. Hubby brought out the package and gave it to me live last night on stream. For those of you not super familiar with the gaming world, these are controllers to help disabled gamers be able to play games in whatever way works for them. With the pain and mobility issues with both my hands and the essential tremor in my right hand it can make gaming difficult and painful for me. I had to give up playing so many games I loved because I couldn't play them without pain. These controllers will allow me to get back in to those games and play pretty much anything I want with minimal pain to me. This clip is basically in a nutshell what happened last night. I opened it and cried a lot. There are a bunch of clips from the stream and you can watch the VOD to see the whole thing. I still can't believe this happened!!! My heart is so full of joy right now. I am so proud to be part of the best gaming community out there. <3 <3

<3 <3 #G4G #Good4Gaming #gaming #accessibility #xboxadaptivecontroller #XAC #footcontroller #3drudder #streaming #surprisepackage #SoEveryoneCanGame #disabledgamer - 1 hour ago
