In order to lose 1 pound of fat per week you must be eating in a 3,500 calorie deficit! Before you do anything, figure out your maintenance calories (TDEE: Total Daily Energy Expenditure). There are many websites that can help you figure this out. I choose 3-4 and take the averages of them! Now follow the instructions below:

Steps to figuring out your own fatloss total calories:
1. Figure out your TDEE through websites
2. Subtract 500 from your TDEE (because TDEE is daily calories needed to maintain where you are and 500 calories/day x 7 days a week = 3500 calories/week)
3. YOU DID IT!

It’s really that simple! It is said that losing 1-2 lbs per week is considered a healthy rate. You can adjust the amount of lbs lost per week by increasing the calorie deficit or decreasing it! .

Having lots of convos lately with some misinformed friends regarding fitness and fat loss. These are the common misconceptions and myths that always seem to permeate through the existence of time.

Do you believe in one or all of these?

😭 You don’t need pain to make gains. Sure you may experience a bit of discomfort the first or second time doing a new exercise but if you are always sore or in pain you are likely to miss workouts and worst of all injure yourself.

🏃 Cardio is great for overall health, but it’s not needed to burn fat. This comes from a calorie deficit which can be achieved by eating less. If you don’t like to spend hours on the treadmill like a little hamster then don’t do it. Walking is just as good, if not better, since you can do that anywhere anytime and every single day without any equipment.

💪🏽 Ab exercises are good for strengthening your core, but do nothing to flatten your belly. So you can hold the world record in planks but if you still eat too much you are literally wasting your time. In addition, where you lose fat is based on genetics. You can’t target a specific area to lose it effectively or optimally. Focus on overall fat loss by being in a sustained calorie deficit.

😓 The amount you sweat is not a reliable indicator that you’ve worked hard. The environment you are in and your genetics can all have an effect. You may not sweat a lot in  pilates or powerlifting, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t have a quality workout. Instead of measuring the pints of sweat you generate, track your workouts by measuring your progress. If you are a runner see if your times are improving. If you strength train ensure you are progressively getting stronger.

Happy Friday!!! Today the weather has really cooled down, and it felt so good to go out and get a quick cardio core workout in! This is one of the moves I did today. Clapping sit-ups: Keep your knees bent, and after each sit-up, be sure to clap your hands! This will keep your range of motion super consistent (and you deserve the round of applause too! 🤪💪🏼).
