Where have all the coyotes gone? Most of the past year you couldn't turn your head without seeing another coyote in Yellowstone, but lately they have been few and far between. Other folks have noticed as well. I have some thoughts. I don't think its food driven since there are ground squirrels and other small tasty creatures everywhere. I suspect the warmer temperatures may be driving them to higher elevations for the summer. Or they may be doing more night hunting as it's so warm.
In any case, I have no doubt we'll see more of them soon, and in the meantime, here's a cute small sub-adult that recently crossed my path at Calcite Springs. - 2 hours ago
