WEDNESDAY TECHNICAL TIPS.
This week we’re tackling a notoriously tricky exercise which is popping up tomorrow: the barbell zercher squat. As a front loading exercise, it’s great for quad engagement, but can be uncomfortable if done wrong. Here’s how to set yourself up and do it correctly:
1️⃣ Start by deadlifting the bar from the ground. Once stood, squat down, placing the bar on your thighs above your knees.
2️⃣ From here, squat down and slide your arms under the bar, placing it in the crook of your elbows. Arms should be shoulder width apart with fists facing the window.
3️⃣ Rise to standing and keep the bar tight to your body, engaging the biceps and core.
4️⃣ Squat down, keeping knees tracking out over toes and heels planted into the floor. Repeat until the set is over!
5️⃣ To lower back down, place the bar back onto your thighs, taking your arms out from underneath and back down to the floor!
Be sure to:
Keep the bar close to your body so you don’t arch your back (how NOT to in video 3)
Lift the chest and keep your eye gaze up Still struggling?
️ Go for a front squat variation (video 4)
