By the riverside
One winds one’s way sometimes through blocked accesses and roadblocks to one’s own space. One's own home. The creation where one belongs. One’s own destination.
Sometimes the hinterland of the river is bombarded by armies and battalions of demonic greed and lust for power and commerce till it gets completely choked.through deafening visual noise and sometimes through crass decibels of sound and clutter.
And yet one makes one’s way slowly, negotiating through a narrow convoluted pathway amidst all the din and noise to arrive. By that time the mind has already chattered enough . Has enormously inflicted enough self-doubt and critique of one’s own very existence.
Nature’s laws. Its ways. The Universe and its existential circle of life - all tend to get obliterated by a world constructing and feeding its own jargon and jamboree of all shapes and sizes.
And finally one comes to one’s own. The creation of Nature. The grandeur and glory of quiet elegance of the river. Its infinite power. Its strength of conviction reflecting and shining like gold. The Grace and beauty of its own monumental stature. The strength in those contours of waves. Its fall – the waterfront. You want to light an earthen lamp on its bosom. On the earth – where it belongs. And let it float and flow in its resplendent waves. The soul and heart sings. Seeing one’s own in the mirror.
That’s when the true significance of Derek Walcot‘s poem rings a bell -
‘The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.’ #art #connectingrivers #arth -artforearth #travellingmuseum #museum #clay #biennale #solobiennale2012 -2018 #installation #contemporaryart #publicart #manavgupta #pottery #terracotta #ceramics #water - 9 months ago
