🍿🧀Tasty tuesday: Cheetos! 🍿🧀
Who doesn't love to munch on a bowl of melt in your mouth cheesy cheetos, but whats really in those puffs? .
Corn meal, vegetable oils, cheese seasoning, canola oil, maltodextrin, natural/artificial flavors, whey, MSG, artificial color. Thats a whole lot of ingredients for something that should be a cheese puff. However lets take a closer look at one ingredient in particular: MSG.
MSG (Monosodium glutamate) is a flavor enhancer used to achieve an umami taste in savory foods. MSG excessivly increases glutamate activity within the brain, causing excessive stimulation of nerve cells, thus damaging the brain. This is why a lot of individuals experience "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome " which causes them to have headaches, tingling, flushing, nausea and muscle tighting after consuming foods high in MSG. If you consume enough MSG it can cross the blood-brain barrier and cause brain swelling and permanent damage. .
So what if i told you that ive got a health alternative to your cheeto craving, without losing that melt in your mouth feel? .
My cheetos have only two ingredients: Cheese🧀 and egg whites🥚! And then whatever spice or seasoning your heart desires (for me personally garlic is the way to go). .
Cheetos (56g): 320kcal (20g fat/ 30g net carbs/ 4g protein)
My whole cheetos recipe (265g) : 302kcal (15.3g fat/ 2.6 net carbs/ 37.2g protein) .
As you can see, not only a massive ingredient difference but also in the macronutrients.
