I never wanted to be a mother. Gah! I can’t even believe those words as I say them now. It’s true though, I never wanted to be a mother. And I never thought I would be. But God had other plans for my life. Big, beautiful, glorious, wonderful plans. He often does. Being a momma is the greatest, most incredible, challenging, rewarding, inspiring, limit-testing, heartbreaking, heart-filling, world-changing gift. It pushes you beyond anything you ever knew possible — in amazing beautiful ways and ways that make you want to pull your hair out. Raising good human beings. Wowzers! What a scary blessing. I am obsessively grateful for these squishy marvellous little faces and the partner with whom I raise them. Grateful for the village of good people we surround ourselves with — because, man, raising good humans really does take a village.
Happy Mother’s Day!!! To the mommas who gave birth to their babies. To the mommas who gave their hearts to babies they didn’t grow in their own womb. To the mommas who’s precious angels look down on them from heaven. To the momma-figures that don’t always get the credit they deserve. To the women roll models who show tiny humans every day how to be the kind of people that this world needs. Mothers come in all shapes, sizes, colours, and forms. Today we celebrate the women who are shaping the world’s future by shaping the hearts and minds of children. It’s a big job! I’m so grateful we have each other to lean on.
