Noel is one of the most kind, sweet, funny & caring nurses. She & I worked together when she was hired as a new graduate nurse. She successfully transitioned from her new grad role ️ to that of preceptor & charge nurse!
I am excited to introduce my first Feature Friday new graduate nurse hire!
Show Noel some love over ️ @noelfrederick
Credentials: Bachelors of Science- Psychology; Associates Degree Nursing
Path to Current Role: Nurse Tech (Ortho Trauma) ️ Nurse Intern (Mom / Baby) ️ Graduate Nurse ️ Preceptor & Charge RN Inpatient Intermediate Care
️Most Proud Nurse Moment: My patient was not feeling well & no one would listen to me when I kept saying I thought it was something worse than pneumonia. I kept pushing & pushing to do more. ️ After my patient advocacy, the CT scan showed multiple PEs (pulmonary embolism)... she ended up intubated & on a heparin drip. She survived (🏼) & her daughter came over to my unit to hug me... she said if it wasn’t for my pushiness & listening to my gut, she would have died. ️
️What’s a challenge/hurdle you overcame in your career & how? Bad coworkers... the lazy ones... the ones that eat their young. I vowed I would never be that way, instead I try to be super helpful on the floor & I build up the new people, helping them so they can become good nurses!
Also, Non-compliant patients! They are the worst, but the ones that’s need us the most. (Such a struggle... ️ your perspective!) I have learned that my patients are adults & they are able to make their own decisions on their lifestyle choices; however, I also make sure they have all the resources & education needed to help them make better choices. It doesn’t always happen, but if I can get through to a few of them, I feel good about that ️️ ️
️Tips for Team Success: When your work is done & you see a fellow nurse struggling, offer help. The deed will be reciprocated in the future, I promise & this feels good (Teamwork defined!)
Come back next Friday when I will feature more insights Noel has on leadership, her why behind nursing, & much more ️
