Just to the south of Mexico City lies Cuernavaca, the capital city of the Mexican state of Morelos, a lush region skirted by the Tepoztlán mountains and steeped in lore and legends that existed long before Europeans entered the scene to wage their war of conquest against the indigenous Aztec population. Despite the devastation wreaked upon the natives by the sustained actions of the Conquistadors and their agents, many of these ancient tales survive to this day, though many have undergone a degree of assimilation with the Catholic faith that is now the dominant doctrine of Latin America. .
Pablo Peña - aka 'Pablomorzza' - is an artist, illustrator and notable musician from Cuernavaca whose unique and fascinating series of mixed-media illustrations, "Sightings" depicts a number of gigantic mythological creatures towering over photographed cityscapes of his home region, some bearing local flora, others clutching the stolen souls of hapless locals. A self-taught bad-ass with a biro, Pablo's social media also presents a fantastic array of bizarrely transmuted animals and humanoids, a unique trip worth taking.
