IT ISN'T ALL ROSES AND SWIMMING POOLS
I'm lucky enough to be sitting by the pool, writing for clients, right now, but it's been two weeks of chaos, with constant travel around South East Asia. And I haven't just seen the beautiful bits, either... As I write this is notice that there's something uncomfortable in me sharing constant pictures of beautiful places; some feeling of undeserving arises. And that comes from me and my thinking. But it feels like I have to justify it. Does anyone else feel like that?
That's interesting enough in itself for self enquiry, but that's not what I wanted to say today. Because my message is that life isn't always as it looks on Instagram. Yes, this is a beautiful picture of me working, but over the last few weeks I've experienced the poorest of villages, seen the most brutal of Cambodian killing fields from only 39 years ago, and been in and out of different places to stay, as well as battling language barriers and exhaustion. It has been tough.
What appears on the external is never what we think. And despite me describing it as tough, there have still been moments that were easy. We so often pin labels on everything - good or bad, easy or hard, happy or sad, rich or poor - that we forget that all there really is, is what is. And the more we become present, the more we see that no matter what is happening in the external, whether we see it as good or bad, that is just our own label. And we can be happy no matter what is happening when we dive within.
The Cambodian children in the village had absolutely nothing, and they were so happy. Swipe to see the video! If this isn't a humbling reminder of the fact that happiness is our true nature, what is? That's one thing I love about travel: constant reminders.
So, yes, right now, I'm by the pool. And I'm more grateful than ever, but I also know that this is just this moment, and I'm staying present...
