Hey guys I just wanted to say thank you for following and showing your support, I really appreciate you all. I was never one to talk about health and my health in particular as I was always embarrassed and insecure but I’ve come to a point in my life where I’ve grown and realised that you just gotta own it.
So. PCOS. What is it? PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which is a hormonal disorder in females. It is an imbalance in the reproductive hormones. The condition indicates that there is multiple (sometimes few, most of the time many) follicles forming on the peripheral layer of the ovaries, called cysts.
The condition varies in each case from mild to severe in regards to symptoms. Some symptoms that may be present are: irregular periods, weight gain and inability to lose weight, darkening of the skin (e.g. in between thighs), thinning of the hair, infertility or difficulty falling pregnant, hair growth in awkward spots where men usually grow hair such as the face, neck, arms etc. This is called hirsutism. Acne may also be a symptom for some women with PCOS.
Diagnostic tests done to determine whether or not you have PCOS is usually blood tests and/or an ultrasound. Often your doctor will also do checks to ensure you don’t have diabetes, as PCOS and diabetes sometimes come hand in hand with women.
The next step in the process is to learn how to manage your elevated hormones, whether it be pharmacologically or naturally, which I’ll talk about in future posts. I’ll also be talking about my diagnosis and how I’ve been managing/struggling/progressing. Thanks again for supporting me my dudes I appreciate you 🧡 - 1 hour ago
