Who will the Eagles draft in the first round?
I find it interesting that Howie Roseman said last month that this defensive line class in the draft is historically good. And then he proceeded to extend Brandon Graham and sign Vinny Curry and Malik Jackson. That doesn't rule out the possibility to still draft a defensive lineman but it surely lowered the possibility, especially in the first round.
There were murmurs a month or two back that the Eagles want to draft an impact player this year. Not a project player or high upside player, but someone who makes an impact right away. After free agency so far I would say there's only two positions where a new player could make an instant impact. Running back or linebacker.
I'm not convinced they draft a running back or linebacker in the first round. I'm also not convinced they pass up on a talented defensive lineman in the first round. I think basically anything is on the table, besides the obvious like a quarterback and punter. I think they won't force a pick; they won't pick solely out of need. They'll choose the best player available. I think there's also a decent chance that if a player they weren't expecting to fall falls they'll trade up for him. They've met with quite a few offensive lineman prospects so far, indicating they could be interested in getting younger there.
I have a gut feeling right now that they take a linebacker or offensive lineman. The impact player thing isn't extremely credible and the Eagles love linemen in he first round. Since 2010, 6 of the Eagles' first round picks have been linemen on either side of the ball. To only 2 non linemen picks, Carson Wentz and Nelson Agholor.
Offensive line could definitely use another player, particularly for LT and LG. We can debate all day about Jordan Mailata and Big V but depth will still be needed there after Jason Peters is gone. There's also belief that when Jason Kelce retires Isaac Seumalo, current LG, will take his spot at C. So LG or C will be opened up.
I'd probably draft a linebacker in the first round. That would solidify the defense. Then draft a RB in the 2nd round. After reviewing Jacobs' tape I don't think he's a 1st rounder. - 21 hours ago
