Thought I took a back picture but I didn’t. Oh well 1st workout at planet with my bro Josh @teggy021 and Bao. We started off with 1mi on the bicycle at level 10 then proceeded to 3x10-100lbs leg extensions, 3x10-100lbs leg curls, 3x10-150lbs toe raises, 3x10-90lbs (2-45plates) squats, 3x10-65lbs dumbbell front squats, 3x10 lunges, and 5x10-360lbs leg presses. I was only able to do my weight on the leg press due to my knee. All I need is a hat and my headphones and I’m ready to get shit done. I’ve really been trying to take all the things I do back to the most basic level I can. With work, I just try and remember the most important things that drive results and have made me successful and I do that. At the gym, sometimes I start thinking too much and worrying about trying to mix up my routines. Let’s be honest we all love carbs, even if you are low carb you still love them. Sugar, bread, pasta....all the carbs! 🍓🥒🥖🥔🍠🥞🍞🍝🍦🧁🍭
The truth is when it comes to weight loss carbs aren’t the enemy. We need carbs for energy. But when we have a high carb meal we can feel guilty for eating it (even if it fits our macros for the day). It’s how society has programmed us to feel about carbs. 👎
So that’s where GDA comes into play. This product is highly underrated in my opinion. I love it. 🖤
What does it do? Well, simply put it helps control blood sugar levels and helps with storage of carbs inside the muscles. It aides in offsetting the high carb meals that could promote fat gain. 🙌
It is not magic. It will not make the carbs you ingest disappear. It aides in using those carbs properly and disposing of them properly instead of the carbs being stored for fat. Well, let’s back track. Felt it on Tuesday mid lift. Truthfully just dismissed it. Woke up yesterday a little stiffer, still hit the gym hard and felt it even more. Over did it

So now I am here, laying on the floor, uncomfortable, forced to take a day off the gym and in pain
.
What should I of done?
.
1️⃣ regular mobility & flexibility work. I say it all the time but I’m also guilty of not doing it nearly enough. Combination of body flow (go see @drlindseyschmidt for awesome post on this). Truthfully it doesn’t take much time but a little bit of time every day and a little extra on a #restday can go along way
2️⃣ I should’ve put some extra time (ok, any time) into a little extra #recovery work and probably even taken a voluntary rest day instead of working through the warning signs. Sometimes it’s a matter of listening to your body.. even when you’re stubborn and think your invincible
.
Good news is I can’t call the pizza guy because I can’t get up to answer the door, because you know damn well I’m frustrated and want to drown my sorrows in 🍕 & 🍦

I did however order the @theragun to help me stay on top of my actual preventative maintenance going forward. Getting older sucks when you have big goals

Another huge victory for me today during #mytransphormation journey. I had my yearly physical today with my doctor and he actually teared up and gave me a big hug

My heaviest ever was 425 lbs. I was 385 first I saw him. Now down to 245. The excitement in my doctors eyes meant everything to me. Said I couldn’t be doing a better job.

Today I was officially taken off of my medications including one for high blood pressure, which I’ve been on for years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A lot of hard work and motivation along the way but things are really starting to change for the better.

I started my fitness journey shortly after that picture and I haven’t looked back.

Starting working out here and there with really no plan spending more time doing cardio with not much weight training.

Didn’t take long to realize the importance of weight training and that I needed to make it my primary focus!!

For a little over a year I did the basic bodybuilding split 4-5 days a week.

In May 2018 I found a passion for powerlifting!! I became addicted to lifting heavy weights!!

I started reading, watching beginner videos and tutorials, subscribing to other powerlifters YouTube channels.  I completely submerged myself into the sport.

Fast forward a year later and I’m preparing  for my third powerlifting meet in May, SE Regionals in August in Jacksonville to hopefully earn a spot to Raw Nationals in Chicago in October!!

Why am i not losing weight?👍 I have had many people ask me this question recently and i want to target one thing that i see happening 99% of the time🤘

We sit down and take a look at what they are eating and i quickly realize they are not👍

We have this mentality that i need to eat less so i can lose weight👍

That is basically true but if we go too far it will be devastating to your weightloss goals👍

When we are setting up a weightloss goal it is important to know where to start🤘

We do this by finding our base metabolic rate. This is the amount if calories we will burn based off our weight, height, age and activity level👍

No we can find this by doing some math but lets make it super easy, go to google and search "whats my base metabolic rate," put in your info and their you go🤘

What ever we come up with we have to subtract 500 calories and there you have it, this is your goal for weightloss👍

Once i walk through this step with people they generally in shock, they do not know what to think👍

This is a hard concept to buy in to when im telling them that they have to eat more if they want to lose weight👍

When we put ourselves in such a large calorie deficit it does a few thinngs to our body👍

It slows our metabolism so low that we dont burn fat anymore👍

We do not get the proper amounts of micronutrients for our body to function optimally👍

We dont get enough macronutrients, and more importantly protien. Protein is the building block of muscle tissue and if we are unable to get proper amounts because of restrictions then we run the risk of  breaking down our muscle tissue, no one wants that🤙

If your trying to lose weight and restricting calories, less isnt always better.  Finding  that sweet spot where we are loosing but keeping our metabolism high and our muscle tissue intact🤙

Happy spring! Spring and summer mean one thing: warmer weather. This of course means all of our favorite summer activities and less clothing. This trip has honestly been one of the first times I have felt completely comfortable walking around in a bikini. It meant the world not being worried about what I was going to wear or being too warm in the layers I usually wear over my swimsuit. With that comfort comes peace of mind. I got to enjoy the beaches, the kayaking, and the water without a second thought. ✨
