GOODBYE VIDEO LINK IN BIO. I always say how quickly time flies with my puppies in training but yet somehow it always creeps up on me. 652 days. How do you sum up 652 days? We have spent most of Elijah’s 652 days together and yet it feels like yesterday our journey began. Back in summer of 2017, I picked up 2-month-old Elijah at the airport. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it certainly was not the calmest and easiest puppy I have ever met, let alone raised. Since then, I have gotten to know Elijah better than anyone and he still fits that description perfectly.
He is pure light on dark days.
He is the calm in the chaos.

We then drove to the Canine Companions for Independence campus which really is the beginning of the end of our time together. We walked in the doors and turned in his gear. I wrote him a good luck message in the chalk outside and then found an empty corner in the room and sat on the floor holding my baby. I whispered “his” song to him: “I wish time would last with you forever, but I know life changes as you grow older.
Spread your wings out into the real world.
My boy, I wish I could show you what you mean to me.
I need you to know how proud I am to be the one to witness all your dreams.
Go out, live your life, and I’ll be here waiting.
Go out, live your life, just keep your heart beating.
No matter how far in distance where you are
Go out, live your life, my dear and I’ll be here with open arms.” A few tears escaped but I still tried to hold it together for him. I saw the crowd start to dwindle down, as each puppy raiser handed off their pup until we were the last ones there. I stole as much time as I could and knew it was time. With shaking hands, I handed off a piece of my heart to the skilled staff. (CONTINUED IN THE COMMENTS) - 10 hours ago
