Let's step back on my time machine about six years ago.
I was a vet tech working for a veterinary clinic & shelter. I adored my job. I was fascinated by every case. I loved figuring out the puzzle with the vets. Sometimes there wasn't a puzzle to figure out. That was one of the amazing things about that work...there was never a dull moment.
Even routine wellness visits for vaccinations and yearly exams were interesting to me. I loved keeping up with all of the new vaccines, the varying types of the same vaccinations, what medications are being used for puppy and kitten deworming, diet, the newest and (subjective) 'best' flea, tick, & heartworm preventative. I just love that stuff.
The hours were insane, I had multiple diseases that were undiagnosed & quite discomforting, & I was at work, all in all, more than I was ever home. I didn't care though. At that point in my life, not being home was quite the welcome gift more often than not.
One day I was headed into the stock room to get some meds from the lock box. Back here is where extra runs & cages were for incoming/unknown vet history dogs & cats. I saw this little scruffy ball. In fact, her name was Scruffy.
Shaking, eyes bulging out, ears sticking out to the left and right like stick arms on a snowman. That was my Pumpkin. That was it. Against all odds, that dog came home with me. The story is long, quite involved, & if you knew the entire thing, you'd probably tell me I was lying. I can assure you, however, Pumpkin was the start to a very true, & so very beautiful love story.
My part to Pumpkin's story is quite peripheral in the grand scheme of things, but I'm sure so many, if not all of you reading this, can relate to those moments in life that just shouldn't happen. But, they do.
Six years is not so long, though the little fuzz & I have lived many lifetimes all wrapped up into a compact package.
I really have used this post as a legit diary entry. I don't think I have ever done something like this...this was fun. Maybe I will bless you all with more rambling in the future? What do you think? 🙃
I hope you all have been well. We have been having many peaceful days. - 2 hours ago
