As calcium is so vital for bone health, making sure you opt for plant based milks which are fortified is essential. You are still able to obtain adequate calcium if you avoid dairy, but fortification of products such a milk and yoghurts is important.

I am the fussiest eater ever and my "master chef" other half seriously struggles to cook around me. Yes, he is the cook in our house (I can make about 3 dishes and that's it 🙈)
I have to say though, this is the best food I have ever tasted. They were amazing. Sweet potato with steak, pepper and a load of herbs and spices that he works with (I know nothing 😂) but this was beautiful. I love him so much and I'm so grateful the kids eat so well with such a variety (because I'll admit I'm useless 🤦‍♀️) luckiest non-housewifey girlfriend ever over here. Just don't tell him I'm bragging about him cause his head will get even bigger 😂😂😂

I’m absolutely loving curries at the moment! Made an @ohsheglows dal last night and tonight I made @doctors_kitchen butternut massaman curry! Such a staple at home, I added @marksandspencerfoodpr soy chunks to this and some steamed kale and cabbage greens for some extra #heath along with coriander and roasted cashews 😍

Don’t underestimate the power of the garden pea ... They are packed with vitamins & minerals (inc Vit A,K&C) and a significant amount of fiber. They also contain 4 x the amount of protein that carrots have and are relatively low GI food do help with blood sugar regulation too.

When you have a big plate of veg for dinner! My challenge for today was to not buy any food at all and to use what I had in the house. As I had a portion of fish pie for lunch, I opted for stuffed peppers tonight. Stuffed with quinoa, onion, courgette, sweet corn, mixed beans, cumin and coriander, topped with my home made salsa and watercress. Not 1 but two sweet potatoes!🍠I did it!
I was really anxious about having 2 small sweet potatoes. But my Nana👵had 2 and said it would make her very happy for me to have 2 also.🙂She supported me and even congratulated me for finishing it all!🎉
We made this together and it was so lovely.👩‍🍳I hardly see her but this trip so far has made us so much closer. I love her so much!💜

This cornflake chicken is one of my favourite recipes. Healthy chicken nuggets with lots of flavour! I thought I would take some nice photos this afternoon and do a blog post recipe for you, I’ll pop this on when my Nina is in bed later tonight. But in the meantime here’s a quick overview of the recipe:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Crush cornflakes and mix with smoked paprika. Then coat chicken breast strips or chicken thigh pieces in an egg and milk mixture and then into the crushed cornflakes. Now bake for 20-25 minutes in the oven until nicely golden and cooked through. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

5 a day ? 
The campaign is based on advice from the World Health Organization which recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables per day = 5 x 80g portions.

This is recommended to lower the risk of deficiency states and serious health problems such as heart disease.

Fruit and vegetables are good sources of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

It is important to remember 5 is a minimum guideline. Recent studies have shown that more than 5 can increase protective health benefits. 
The 5 portions should include a variety of fruit and vegetables to get a combination of fibre, vitamins and minerals.

Vegetables are arguably more beneficial to your health, contain less sugar and are generally cheaper.

The MIH power gang dietician Hannah, nutritionist Tina and founder @bentley_sarah headed down to @nhsbartshealth for a ground-breaking children's fun day about bowel health. Hannah presented an incredible rainbow of foods to inspire the kids and their parents, we made food insects and bugs and Tina held down the activities and games! Cute. 🐞🐛

We were joined by our ambassador Rupy @doctors_kitchen who was talking all things health, diet and bowel and the fabulous team led by Dr Eleni (or Doctor Pooh as her young patient's know her as) of the countries first ever integrated department tackling the complex issues that can cause bowel dysfunction in kids. What an epic day. So great to meet the brave kids and families doing what they can to improve  their health. 🙂 more pictures next week! .
