💬 I popped along to Jolly botanist earlier in the week to try out their new menu! They had sent me it across in advance to have a browse.. it had lots of lighter options which is great as we head into the summer months as I always find myself looking for something that isn’t so heavy! Some of these options included seared sea bream, Moroccan lamb chops and a quinoa salad with halloumi! Do not fret.. there is still the choice of a comforting fish and chips or a pie of the day! To start I had the scallops - these came on a bed of cauliflower purée with a pancetta crumb ... really well cooked, melt in the mouth and the pancetta crumb gave it a nice smoky crunch! My bf had the goats cheese which was really creamy and massive (for only £5)! I was torn between going for the halloumi salad or the lamb chops but I went for the lamb in the end which had pomegranate cous cous, a mint yoghurt dressing and some sweet potato! The lamb was mostly delicious although some of the bits near the bone were quite under-cooked. At first I wasn’t really getting the pomegranate couscous .. I’m not very good with fruit and savoury but it actually really grew on me .. ofc I ate every last grain. The mint yoghurt was lovely and fresh and complimented all the flavours! My bf had the burger which he demolished within 5 minutes and he then sat for the rest of the meal eyeing up my lamb haha! All round, very tasty meal and would go back! Couldn’t believe how busy it was for a Tuesday night .. lots of people out enjoying a few G&Ts with their meals! ☺️🍽🍔.

📍 @dalkeith_country_park .
💬 Took myself away from the city and out to the lovely green surroundings of Dalkeith Country Park to go to the SCRAN street food festival! It was a great day for it with the sun shining! When we arrived at the park we had no idea where to go as there were no signs but we got there in the end to find massive queues .. don’t think anyone expected the number of people to turn up that did! There were a few food stalls, some offering savoury food from mac’n’cheese to pizza to bao buns, some with sweet treats including @mimisbakehouse and @sugardaddysedinburgh then a few drinks stalls too! A lot of the stalls were running out of food and it was only 2pm (event was meant to be 12 - 5pm)!! We had to very tactically queue but eventually got our hands on these scrumptious bao buns from @lutisartisanfood .. we went for the short rib beef and the pork belly! Both tasted very fresh and delicious! Washed these down with a couple of pints of @thistlycrosscider .. happy days!! Have a great Saturday night everyone ☺️🍺🍽.

💬 If you’re looking for a big slab of moist carrot cake .. this place can help you out! A cute and cosy cafe at Tollcross .. you can tell that it’s going to be warm from the outside as the windows are always very steamed up haha! There was great looking food coming out the kitchen so I’ll need to pop by for some brunch/lunch but for now it was just a cuppa and a cake.. a favourite Sunday activity (I went last Sunday)! Loved the attention to detail with the flower on the plate and the mint in the cake - makes it feel like a lovely treat! ☕️🍰☺️.

📍 @barburritouk .
💬 Was absolutely buzzing to have been invited along by Bar Burrito for a burrito making master class as they were launching their Spring Chicken Tinga filling! I work quite nearby one of their places so I’ve been a regular for a while for a Friday lunch burrito! This time I got to go behind the counter and attempt to make my own lol. I don’t usually / haven’t ever shown my face on this account but why not?!
.
Started off the eve with a chat about Bar Burrito’s history and their venues! They now have 4 dotted around Edinburgh! This was followed by some chips/dip .. my fav was a hot chipotle one. .
Then they brought of lots of mini pots of all the burrito fillings .. was great trying these! I always tend to go for the chicken filling but now I’d defo branch out having tried them all - loved the spicy pulled beef one and the pulled pork! The chicken tinga one (their new flavour) was tasty too - shredded chicken in a chipotle / tomato sauce!
.
After that, I got my gloves on and was taught how to make my own and roll it! It was actually a lot harder than I thought it was going to be .. especially when you’re trying to pack in the filling I did lol! Could I look more pleased with myself in the last pic?! Really enjoyed the evening, had some very tasty food and the burrito at the end went down a treat! Thanks for having me - so much fun! ☺️🌯🥑.

📍 @thebuffalotruck ( @thepittmarket ).
💬 Two pics in one day and it’s another one from the Pitt! I also shared this chicken burger! I had a burger from the buffalo truck during the summer at George Square gardens! I remember loving the buttermilk coating and this one was no different - perfectly crispy! A really tasty bite - soft bread bun, succulent chicken, black garlic mayo, pickles and lettuce! Would definitely have again for £6! 🍔🤤🍔.

💬 Omg why had I not been to the Pitt until yesterday?! I absolutely loved it! Loads of amazing food stalls, live music and a great atmosphere all round! I had the flat iron steak with chips which was smothered in gremolata! You can see them cooking huge cuts of meat then chopping it all up right in front of you - the meat was tender and tasty .. this photo is making it looks a lot more rare than it was! The chips were well seasoned and the sauce was to die for .. made of garlic, parsley, olive oil, capers and lemon - a heavenly combination and lots of it! Such a tasty dish and for only £8... not many places you can get a freshly cooked steak and chips for that price!!! Loved it .. I think I’ll be becoming a regular at the Pitt! 🥩🍟🍺.

💬 Went for a cuppa and a sweet treat this morning at Soderberg... it was definitely worth the walk in the wind across the Meadows! I went for the raspberry and vanilla bun! It had a really nice vanilla custard-type filling which balances out the bitter raspberries - very tasty! I’ve always walked by this cafe and can now see why it’s always busy! They have lots of freshly baked goods on offer - from cinnamon buns to brownies to scones! Happy Sunday everyone ☺️☕️🥨🍰.

💬 My second time visiting Yeni Meze and another fantastic meal!! This cute place on Hanover street has lots to offer - from cold meze and hot meze sharing plates to full on kebabs! We shared 9 plates between 3 of us and each one was delicious! 3 per person is the recommended amount so we went with that and it was plenty! From the cold meze section, we got tsatziki and hummus with pitta to start - the tsatziki is the nicest I have ever had (bold claim) and the pittas were served warm (nice touch)! From the hot meze, we had halloumi, falafel, calamari, Turkish sausage, filo pasties with feta/spinach, potatoes with tomato sauce and butterflied prawns! A Greek salad arrived too which we don’t think we actually ordered but it was very fresh and tasty! My favourites were the halloumi (not rubbery at all and piping hot) and the Turkish sausage (so full of flavour)! The show goes on ... we then shared a nut baklava for dessert with pistachio ice cream - indulgent and heavenly!! Would recommend this little spot on Hanover street for a tasty bite to eat in a nice setting that’s reasonably priced! 🍽🍷🥒🥙.

💬 I headed over to Marchmont area earlier in the week with my dad for some delicious food! Had seen a few people posting about here on insta so had been wanting to check it out! I had the Singapore noodles which came with a mix of pork, chicken and prawns! The prawns were juicy, the pork had a smokey flavour and the chicken was nice too! Lots of flavour in the noodles and all the ingredients were very fresh! There was some chilli flakes which you had the option to add if you want to up the heat! My dad’s main was a pho - he said it was all very fresh and had a great flavour but the broth could have been slightly warmer! We got a few sides as well - chicken gyozas, chicken strips with sriracha mayo and their 7 spice fries! Loved the gyozas, they are always a winner! The chips were absolutely massive and tossed in a really nice spice mix - they were £4.50 but they were huge so worth it! A quaint little restaurant which had the option to sit in or takeaway! The staff were very friendly and it was buzzy for a week night - it was a wee bit cold inside though! 🥟🍜🥢.

💬 I went here last night with my family for another bday meal... wondering how long I can drag this out lol! This place is so close to me and I can’t believe I had never been! We had an early reservation so the rugby was still on when we arrived but it as great, big screens dotted around and a really vibrant atmosphere! The food area is separated from the bar too which made you feel a bit more like you were in a restaurant rather than an all bar one.
.
To start, I had a beef short-rib (didn’t get a pic) - it was so tender and came with a tasty Asian slaw! There was lots of other options such as haggis bonbons and falafel which my family got and loved! For main, I had a Parmesan and herb crusted chicken burger! It’s hard for burgers to look great but this was a really tasty one! The chicken was really juicy and massive with a nicely fried coating that wasn’t too thick or greasy! Chips were a wee bit bland and needed a bit of salt! For dessert, I shared a coconut sorbet and a cup of tea! The sorbet was so refreshing and I saw on the menu it was @eteaket tea which is always a winner for me! Speaking of wins .. I was flicking through a mini brochure that was on the table and I saw a “enjoy a free meal on your birthday” offer .. it was no strings attached, I had no idea so they took my 3 courses off the total bill - couldn’t believe it!!
Had a really nice evening here.. after dinner we had some drinks in the bar area and there was live music! Will definitely be back whether it’s for drinks or some food! They had an outdoor area which looks onto the meadows... have no doubt that will be heaving in the summer! Happy Sunday everyone - have a great day!! 🥂☕️🍔🍟.

💬 It was my bday yesterday so we went for a lovely meal at El Cartel .. we had always wanted to go but heard of the long queues of the one in town so we never went .. their Teviot one takes bookings though so no problems!! When we arrived we were seated quickly, drinks orders taken and someone talked us through the menu! They recommended 2/3 plates per person depending on how hungry you are! We went for 5 plates between two which I thought was a good amount! We started off with the guacamole - really tasty guac topped with pomegranate, spring onion and cheese mmmm! It came with plantain chips which I liked as they were a bit different from the usual tortilla chip! We then went for 3 sets of tacos and a quesadilla (which I forgot to get a pic of whoops)!
1. Steak - flat iron steak, salsa, spring onion, tomato and avo! This was the first taco to come out, really tasty!
2. Duck - confit duck leg, pecan salsa, pineapple and jalapeño! I loved this one.. so much filling you could hardly pick it up! The combo is flavours worked really well and the duck was melt in the mouth!
3. Cod - battered cod, pomegranate, adobo cream and pico de gallo! A huge piece of fish in each taco which fell apart when you bit into it - delicious!
The quesadillas was filled with chorizo and sweet potato but the filling was more of a purée which I wasn’t loving! It was tasty enough though!
The food was served really quickly - we had sat down, ordered and finished eating within 40 minutes.. great if you’re wanting something quick but felt slightly rushed!!
Really buzzy in here, great music and great atmosphere! Maybe this is due to the fact they do delicious food or maybe because they serve frozen margaritas!! I had in the classic one and it was so refreshing! Quite pricey though for a small glass (£7.50).

💬 Who ate all the pies?! Me lol.. National pie week is coming up (w/c 4th March) and I was delighted when Jarvis Pickle asked if I wanted to try some of their fab looking pies! I picked the flavours - they have many more on offer, it was quite hard to narrow it down to 4 but eyes are always bigger than the belly! In order of trying them:
1) chicken and leek - lots of filling, well seasoned and very comforting.
2) goats cheese and spinach - this was my favourite one, it had a creamy goats cheese throughout and it just worked really well.
3) beef and ale - a classic steak pie with a rich flavour.
4) chicken balmoral - lots of great flavours in this one: chicken, haggis, bacon ... yum!
Pastry wasn’t too thick on them so didn’t feel too heavy! Not ashamed to admit these only got delivered on Sunday and I’ve had all 4! I had no idea they sold them in the Margiotta but you can get your hands on these from all the Margiotta’s in Edin or online from their website!! Thanks for sending me them - they went down a treat!! 🥧🥧🥧🥧.

💬 This morning a big group of Edin food bloggers/instagrammers (whatever we’re called) got together to do what we do best.. brunch! I’d driven by this place a few times but had never actually noticed it so was nice to go somewhere new! I ordered off the lunch menu - sourdough toast with an olive tapenade, tomatoes, rocket and crumbled goats cheese! The tapenade was delightful - salty and olive-y lol! The tomatoes were so fresh and juicy too! I didn’t actually realise when I ordered it that it came with sweet potato chips (even thought it said on the menu) so this was a pleasant surprise! A very tasty dish! Was really nice to get together and meet people who love food just as much as I do! Thanks very much for organising @the_wee_food_blogger and @littleladyofleith ! ☕️🍽🍅.

💬 It’s been a tradition for 5 years that on Valentine’s we go for Chinese food.. thought we would try out the new place that opened up near ours!! I only got one pic as V-day date night shouldn’t include phones so this pic will have to do!.
.
They make homemade dumplings and you can see them doing so - we had the prawn/pork/chive (green) ones and the pork/mushroom ones .. really enjoyed them, tasty filling, glutinous outside and a nice soy sauce and garlic dip!! We had two mains - a beef noodle soup and a pork yu xiang with rice! The pork dish was lovely - lots of meat, veg and flavour! Unfortunately I didn’t love the beef soup too much - the soup and the beef weren’t very flavourful - I was expecting a spicy / salty kind of broth! However they had soy sauce and chilli oil on the table - adding that helped! They were bringing everyone a free dessert called “milk balls” - something I’d never had before and they were definitely very unusual but I think I liked them!! I had a google when I went home and it’s essentially a solidified condensed milk spring roll lol! This place isn’t fancy, has canteen-style lighting and doesn’t serve alcohol but if you’re looking some tasty, homemade and reasonably priced dumplings these ones are a good shout! I probably wouldn’t go back for a dinner but would for the dumplings! Really friendly staff!! 🥟🍜🍚🍵.

🥟. . #edinburgh - 2 months ago

💬 Another day, another post about Grams’ delightful looking (and tasting) ‘summertime pancakes’! Protein pancakes, fruit, yoghurt, freeze dried raspberries and a small beaker of maple syrup! The pancakes were dense but I liked them and the maple syrup / yoghurt softened them up! There was lots of fresh fruit too! Who know spiralling yoghurt could look so nice?! Left feeling full, healthy and ready for the day!! It was £6.90 for this dish - v reasonable compared to a lot of brunch places!! Such a cute little place right by Haymarket! 🥞☕️🍓.

💬 Holy guacamole, these were good! I kept seeing these nachos pop up on my insta feed and knew I had to go - went down yesterday afternoon for the famous nachos and a pint and left feeling very satisfied! A wee bit out the way from where I normally head for food but so worth the walk and nice to see a different part of town! We went for “the hoose regular beef chilli nachos” .. it’s hard to believe that this is just the regular size however they do also do a “gigantic”! Loads of tortilla chips with melted cheese, very tasty beef chilli with lots of beans/jalapeños throughout, a huge dollop of sour cream another big helping of guac! There was the option to have a veggie/vegan one - a five bean chilli and vegan cheese! The regular size is for 2-3 people and costs £13 - we shared between 2 and it was plenty for a lunch for us both ... didn’t end up needing dinner either as we were stuffed lol! I have had nachos in countless numbers of places and they have been disappointing with not enough topping but not in this place - they are definitely doing it right!! A good shout if you’re looking for a treat after trekking up Arthur’s seat! 🌶🥑🍺.

💬 Another day of eating too much and loving it!! We went for the afternoon tea at the Eteaket tea rooms last weekend - it was £15.95pp and included sandwiches, scones, some mini cakes and a pot of their tea! This picture is the tier for 3 people! Each person could choose which sandwich filling they wanted which is great for me as I can be a wee bit fussy on sandwiches! You can also choose which tea you want (there are loads of really cool/different flavours)! I swapped my tea out for a chai latte which was lovely and creamy however I wish I’d had a pot of tea to wash down all the food too haha!! I went for the Brie, pesto and sundried tomato sandwich option - huge chunks of Brie as I was hoping for!! The scones came alongside clotted cream and jam (as they should) and were massive! The little cakes were very tasty - an almond based one, a lemony tart one and a mini chocolate brownie type one!! It’s not the most refined afternoon tea I’ve ever seen but it’s a much more laid back approach as opposed to the usual fancy/occasion ones - you don’t need too special an occasion for it other than it being the weekend or maybe just that you fancy it!! Really chilled out vibe in here!! There was the option to add a glass of fizz for an extra few £££ if you want to! 🍰☕️🥪.
