It was my bday yesterday so we went for a lovely meal at El Cartel .. we had always wanted to go but heard of the long queues of the one in town so we never went .. their Teviot one takes bookings though so no problems!! When we arrived we were seated quickly, drinks orders taken and someone talked us through the menu! They recommended 2/3 plates per person depending on how hungry you are! We went for 5 plates between two which I thought was a good amount! We started off with the guacamole - really tasty guac topped with pomegranate, spring onion and cheese mmmm! It came with plantain chips which I liked as they were a bit different from the usual tortilla chip! We then went for 3 sets of tacos and a quesadilla (which I forgot to get a pic of whoops)!
1. Steak - flat iron steak, salsa, spring onion, tomato and avo! This was the first taco to come out, really tasty!
2. Duck - confit duck leg, pecan salsa, pineapple and jalapeño! I loved this one.. so much filling you could hardly pick it up! The combo is flavours worked really well and the duck was melt in the mouth!
3. Cod - battered cod, pomegranate, adobo cream and pico de gallo! A huge piece of fish in each taco which fell apart when you bit into it - delicious!
The quesadillas was filled with chorizo and sweet potato but the filling was more of a purée which I wasn’t loving! It was tasty enough though!
The food was served really quickly - we had sat down, ordered and finished eating within 40 minutes.. great if you’re wanting something quick but felt slightly rushed!!
Really buzzy in here, great music and great atmosphere! Maybe this is due to the fact they do delicious food or maybe because they serve frozen margaritas!! I had in the classic one and it was so refreshing! Quite pricey though for a small glass (£7.50).
