Our coffee of the week is Indigo! As the birthplace of coffee Ethiopia also is the ancestral home of the natural process, in which ripe coffee cherries are picked and dried without first removing the skin and pulp. This method imparts an intense fruitiness to the roasted coffee, and we’ve created Indigo to showcase the hallmark blueberry notes found in a natural Ethiopia. Featuring flavors of dark chocolate, cranberry, and baking spices, this blend is well-balanced, sweet, and juicy. Enjoy!

Our reimagined menus reflect our long-standing goal of providing high-quality, locally sourced fresh food with creative flavor profiles. We’ve widened our menu to be more inclusive of diverse diets with a range of globally inspired, progressive items. Our coffee of the week is Rwanda Dukunde Kawa! Founded in 2003, Dukunde Kawa has become one of Rwanda’s best-known cooperatives for the quality of its coffee as well as its social programs. The more than 2,000 members, 80 percent of whom are female, have access to health insurance, modern materials for building homes, and financing for crops and livestock. In addition to an extensive wet mill, the cooperative now has a sophisticated dry mill to perform the value-added processes that previously had been outsourced. We selected a 100% women-produced lot for this year’s seasonal offering and love the rich chocolate, baking spices, and dried fruit flavors complemented by a round body and grapefruit-like acidity. Enjoy!

Our coffee of the week is Papua New Guinea Ulya! Established in the 1930s by the Lay family from Australia as part of colonial efforts to promote coffee as a cash crop in New Guinea, the Ulya Plantation lies in the famous Wahgi Valley in Western Highlands Province. The estate, originally measuring almost 800 hectares, was subdivided after the country achieved independence and land was redistributed to indigenous people. Coffee cherries grown both on the 178-hectare plantation and by several hundred small-scale farmers in the surrounding area are processed at the Ulya wet mill and then sun-dried for 3-6 days. In spite of its sheer remoteness and challenging infrastructure, this origin continues to produce amazing coffees that deserve to be featured. We especially love the tropical fruit, peach, and cranberry flavors in this selection as well as the elegant acidity. Enjoy!

Say hello to Sisters Session Roasted™ coffee, formerly known as Gaia Blend. Though the name and art have changed, the coffee remains the same, consisting of 100% women-produced coffees from Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
We were inspired to create a new name and look that better promotes the coffee as well as the broader role of women in the coffee-producing world. Although this issue has gained visibility in the specialty industry, largely due to organizations like the International Women in Coffee Alliance and more recently the Partnership for Gender Equity, we are just scratching the surface in recognizing the work that women do (and have been doing all along) at origin.
Join us in celebrating equality in the coffee industry with a cup of Sisters coffee. Available in cafes and online starting April 1, 2019. Cheers!
