Thank you, all, for a wonderful opening of Keeping Count last night! The notion of ‘many’ truly is powerful ... and these three talented artists take current events - the Roe v. Wade debate, gun violence, the police state - and make beautiful, thought provoking art. If you haven’t taken a moment to read the stories on @kimberlybeckerstitcher’s Roe House Dresses, absorbed the detail of @elenamarie.brunner’s detailed drawings of the Women’s March and police in riot gear, or felt the weight of 96 a day (a reference to the number of deaths per day from gun violence), we hope you’ll visit our University Place Gallery this month.

This Thursday 4/4, 6-8pm - join us for the reception for Keeping Count, our April Small Group exhibit at University Place. For these three artists, the notion of many is powerful. @elenamarie.brunner’s barriers are influenced by the 2017 Women’s Marches across the country. @michelefandelbonner’s A Seat at the Table references the increased number of female candidates - and office holders - after the 2018 mid-term elections. (Fun fact: @michelefandelbonner presented Congresswoman @repayannapressley with her own chair from this series! Visit our stories to see the Congresswoman with her chair). #artivism

We love this wall with @keithmaclelland’s Monster Cowboys and @stephanietodhunterart’s lunchboxes. MacClelland finds inspiration in Hollywood’s heroic singing cowboys of the 1950s, but with a contemporary spin reflective of current social and political climates. Meanwhile, Todhunter’s lunchboxes are part of her Lost Girls series, which includes themes of isolation, stranger danger, and contemporary parenting. Swipe to see the whole installation!
