A goal I have is to GET OUTSIDE, even for like 5-10 mins mid-day during the work week. 👌🏼 It’s so easy to work, work, work, and not leave the office, but then it comes 4/5 o’clock and I realize I haven’t had a breathe of fresh air! To me, a quick walk and a burst of sun at lunch works wonders. 🌤 anyone else with me on this one??

Retinol. Hailed as the gold standard of anti-aging. You see “retinol” on the label at target or you can get a prescription, so what’s the deal?? 🤷🏼‍♀️
•
Retinol is another name for Vitamin A. It encourages your cells to turn over more rapidly and increase collagen. Prescription retinoids (usually called Retin-A or Tretinoin) contain MUCH higher concentrations of the active ingredient, retinoid acid, compared to over-the-counter brands. 🧖🏼‍♀️
•
Prescription strength creams may cause redness and peeling, BUT they achieve visible results more quickly. When you buy your retinol cream from the store, it won’t include the strength (the FDA does not require this), but usually it’s mixed with an emollient to help sooth and moisturize the skin.
•
Other than anti-aging, retinoids creams have been used to treat moderate-to-severe acne and can fade the appearance of dark spots. 🙌🏼 I advise starting the use of retinol before 30, with the goal in mind of prevention!
•
Key tips on how to use! It’s better to use high concentration of retinoids at night, because prescription strength creams are more susceptible to oxidation from UV rays. If your daytime product boasts retinol on its label, chances are the concentration is so small it won’t cause any adverse events in the sun. ☀️ Less is more, a pea size amount can cover your whole face (esp when using rx strength).
•
When I’m not using a prescription retinol, my favorite over the counter product is @neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair! ✨

I asked my 101 year old patient the secret to living a long + healthy life. I thought the answer would be deep and profound. The response: “be stupid and have fun.” 🙈🤷🏼‍♀️ I like it.

Winter is the best time to get your skin in check. A lot of treatments, such as IPL, Fraxel, and Microneedling, advise you to stay away from the sun following a procedure. ☀️ Doing these in the winter months is very beneficial, because of the shorter sunlight and less UV rays. We all hate the short days, but let’s take advantages when we can!

You’d be surprised what small words of encouragement on the pavement can do for your long run. 🏃🏼‍♀️ It’s been SEVEN years since I’ve done a marathon, and I’ve finally signed up for another one. Cue major nerves. Ask me reasons why another day... not after finishing 15 miles (because it was long and hard and now I’m not quite sure about the whole thing). #LAmarathon here I come! But first up, EAGLES! 🦅

🥂 2 years ago today, it was a one way ticket from Philly to LA. I landed here and was told the truck carrying ALLL my belongings had fallen in a ditch during an ice storm in the middle of the country. No joke. It would be 2 more weeks before I would see any of my boxes. Let’s just say - MAJOR tears at baggage claim occurred. 🙈 I had no job, a lot of school loans, and didn’t think LA traffic could be THAT bad??
•
To be honest, the whole move was a BIG deal to me (and still kind of is). Long story short, I survived. I got a job, I still have a lot of school loans, and I got an apartment where I walk to work. #winning 🙌🏼 I don’t often worry about ice storms anymore, and do wonder if I have time to catch the sunset. I like to think I’m a regular at the neighborhood bar down the street. I joined a book club (well sometimes it’s 🍷 club). I marvel at the California coast and the 82 sunny days in a row. I run wearing shorts in January. But, I do find some sort of comfort in knowing that no matter what + and where I live, I will always proudly be from the East Coast. ✌🏼

Best part of the job? Someone coming in as a stranger and leaving as an old friend. All chit chat welcome + (almost) no topic off limits. 🙈

80 percent of life's most defining moments take place by age 35. That means that eight out of 10 of the decisions and experiences that make your life what it is .. will have happened by your mid-30s. This is not my opinion, these are facts from the TED Talk I listened to last night. 😳 Now, I’m not sharing this to make you panic; I’m sharing this to discuss what the hell to do next!!?

Thankfully, this TED Talk gave some good tips - gain identity capital and focus on the weak ties. Do something that’s an investment on who you might want to be next and something that’s a value in your life. That’s identity capital. 💁🏼‍♀️ (Think education, big move, change of job, new startup.) These new things often come from WEAK TIES. That’s friends of friends of friends. 👯‍♀️ Weak ties can lead to the strongest connections. You know your neighbor’s boss or your friend’s cousin? They may have that unposted job or someone to mentor you. So if you are anything like me, we are not getting any younger - but it DEFINITELY doesn’t mean we can’t be getting wiser.

And despite everything, the sun will always rise and fall. ✨ But when you catch it at this moment... on the last day of the year... it is something to write home about. #2019

FACIAL. AGING. 🤗 What’s actually going on here?? One sentence answer: our fat begins to fall. SWIPE LEFT TO SEE. The fat around your eyes, temples, and cheeks, start to fall... and settle a little too comfortably around the mouth and lower face (how rude). 🙄 This is what gives you the hollow under eyes and puffy jowls. 😩

Don’t panic. 1. You are still beautiful. 2. Fillers can very much help lift and plump where needed. 🙌🏼

It’s fairly rare that I take days off from work. I admit it, I am a PTO hoarder. 🤷🏼‍♀️🙈 No, but usually I feel a little guilty, always find I have something to finish, and obviously don’t want to leave my patients hanging- so to put “out of office” on the schedule is usually left as a distant wish. But when you do, boy, does it feel so so sweet. You give yourself time to refresh, reset, and recharge. Coming back to work following a break, you feel a bit more ready to conquer the day & a bit more thankful to be there. 🙏🏼
