I didn’t get to see Jenny Lewis at the Moody Theater last night, so here’s a pic from when I did get to see her perform at the Austin City Limits Festival on Sept. 25, 2008.

Of course I’m in Rock Hill SC ostensibly to visit the parental units, my siblings, nieces and nephews, but in reality it’s to visit Ollie and Trixie.

Remembering my childhood dog Duchess who was born on this date (2/24). Here she is in all her majesty sitting on our side porch, sometime in the late 70s or early 80s.

72 degrees on January 5 at Hancock Golf Course in Austin TX. Hole 4 is a drivable par 4 (around 265 but downhill), but you have to avoid the pond guarding the front left of the green. Hole 5 is a par 3, about 140 or so today across the creek below. Perfect day for golf even if my play didn’t reflect how nice it was.

Day trip to see the flamingoes at Celestún, with about 200 together in a row at this location in the Celestún river. This stray decided to fly by before joining the others.

Stan Lee was an inspiration to many generations, including my own. I learned to read with a big help from Marvel comic books, especially my favorite, Spider-man, who Stan co-created with Steve Ditko.
By the time I received my first comic book, Amazing Spider-Man 132, Stan had passed on the writing duty to younger writers in the ‘70s, but every Spider-Man comic (and every Marvel comic) began with an introduction to the hero by Stan Lee that let you know who the hero was and why you should be rooting for them.

Later I went back and bought as many early Amazing Spider-Man comics as possible, including my earliest, 19 and 20.
When I moved from Richmond to Austin in 2001 I sold most of my comics, but I made sure my Spider-Man comics came with me.
It says something about Stan Lee that Spider-Man is still inspiring kids 60 years later with the phrase he will always be best known for, and is something we should try to live by: “With great power there must also come great responsibility.” - Stan Lee

And good morning to you, too!
This guy was resting on my computer bag underneath the fold. I’m glad he chose that instead of one of my shoes.

Mayan ruins of Chicanna (House of the Serpent’s Mouth), a smaller site known mainly for Structure II, from which the site gets its name.
