Stan Lee was an inspiration to many generations, including my own. I learned to read with a big help from Marvel comic books, especially my favorite, Spider-man, who Stan co-created with Steve Ditko.
By the time I received my first comic book, Amazing Spider-Man 132, Stan had passed on the writing duty to younger writers in the ‘70s, but every Spider-Man comic (and every Marvel comic) began with an introduction to the hero by Stan Lee that let you know who the hero was and why you should be rooting for them.
Later I went back and bought as many early Amazing Spider-Man comics as possible, including my earliest, 19 and 20.
When I moved from Richmond to Austin in 2001 I sold most of my comics, but I made sure my Spider-Man comics came with me.
It says something about Stan Lee that Spider-Man is still inspiring kids 60 years later with the phrase he will always be best known for, and is something we should try to live by: “With great power there must also come great responsibility.” - Stan Lee - 5 months ago
