The second I saw it, I knew I had to kapotasana in this cubby space @playaviva πŸ˜‚πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ The first go, @fitflexjuli spotted and helped me into the box before capturing the photo (second video), juuussst so I could feel safe about it. I went back and filmed another, being all confident with myself πŸ™ŠπŸ₯° and the last video in the slideshow is the first time I ever did this sort of thing in a window box somewhere in the Toronto Pathway 😌

Puppy pose is one of the best heart openers out there. I practice this pose way more than wheel or camel or any of those other backbends, mostly because it is so simple and so versatile. You can do extended puppy pose with your hands to the wall or a window sill. You can use blocks underneath your elbows to intensify, or if you have extended arms you can lift your knees off the ground pressing further into your chest to deepen. And you can even do this bound version I discovered a while ago, which feels amazing if you are comfortable in traditional puppy pose 😌 choose the variation that is right for you, and if you are looking to really open up your shoulders and upper back, practice this one a few times per week 😘 for day 5 of #lovechakrachallenge πŸ₯°

Making shapes with yogis from all around 🌎 Yogis I have admired on social media for a while, so getting to meet everyone in person was slightly surreal. Upward Facing Dog for day 3 of #lovechakrachallenge πŸ• Most of the time we only give this pose the attention of one inhale, never really holding to focus on the benefits. Recently I have had students in my core classes hold this one for a few breaths and it’s definitely tough!

Starting in Downward Facing Dog, lift up the heels shifting forward into plank pose, taking it slow. Once the shoulders begin to stack on top of your wrists, gently dip the hips towards the ground. Moving suuupperrr slow here if you can!! Rolling on to the tops of the toes, the hips are still not dipped all the way down. Keep that long line in your spine/lower back by pressing the toes down keeping the backs up the legs active and lifted. Imagine someone pressing down on to your calves or hamstrings, and you pushing back up! At the last moment, the shoulders roll back, chest opens and head lifts 😌 Now try and hold this one for 5 breaths and repeat 3 more times πŸ™Š It’s a great asana for targeting core in the low back, a spot we rarely focus on, while opening up our hearts ❀️

I have one dream I can clearly remember happening a lot when I was a kid. I’d be walking to school and on my way just before getting there, a T-Rex would run towards me and break down the school and start chasing me all the way back home πŸ¦– 10 year old me would out run the T-Rex (somehow), but at the final moment he would get me and break my arm.. I know, just my arm πŸ˜… It was terrifying, until I learned to control the dream and would have fun with it. Sometimes fighting the dinosaur, or helping it break down the school πŸ˜‚ was I weird? Yeah, I think so. #stillam 😜 Anyway, I still feature dinosaurs in my dreams, they kinda just appear. And apocalyptic type settings as well. I don’t know what that says about me haha. So, tell me about your dreams 😢😘

I love the different variations you can take with this heart opener, using blocks by the heels, the wall as support, no hands or coming up with different leg shapes. Either way, whenever I go into this pose, I think about lifting my chest as high up as I can to create that space in the lower back. Can’t wait to see your variations! 😍

I used to be able to sit my butt fully down in this pose, but the strength I built in my back and shoulders is much more important than how flexible I can be πŸ₯° Progress can come in all forms. For me I see more progress in lessoning my bend and building that space with strength. Also mentally letting go of perfection and how I can capture the deepest version of this pose. 3 years ago I probably would have taken this photo again. Over and over, until the lines were perfect and I touched down, bunz to heelz. Now, I say fuck it. This is my practice, my page, and I love how this turned out! 😏❀️

Had the time of my life at @playaviva - but now it’s back to reality! Landed in Toronto last night around midnight, saw all the snow and immediately hopped on a plane back to Mexico πŸ˜‚ jk, I wish.
