Est. 2016. Over 15,238 events in 996 cities, we've convinced at least 226,885 bystanders to take veganism seriously. See link for more.

Each year, millions of live farmed non-human animals are transported thousands of miles for slaughter—or to places where they will be fattened for slaughter. Live export, defined as “the commercial transport of livestock across national borders,” is still a widespread global occurrence, with around 3 million non-human animals shipped each year from Australia alone.

The individuals that are shipped, usually cows, sheep, and pigs, face cramped and overcrowded spaces, extreme temperatures, and exhaustion and dehydration due to lack of food and water. Furthermore, with no room to move, they often become drenched in their own and other individuals’ excrement. It’s estimated that more than 100,000 litres of urine and faeces accumulate on a typical live-export ship every day.

Many of those who face this fate do not reach their final destination and instead die in transport. High levels of ammonia, due to the build-up of urine, cause the air to become toxic, choking and burning those on board. In low temperatures, the container becomes like a freezer, and in higher temperatures, like an oven.

Live export exists because we have objectified these individuals as immaterial objects.

End the demand for this atrocity.

It’s rare, but it can happen! Listen to this incredible testimony by one of our volunteers:

“These four girls went vegan on the spot!

They watched footage of animal agriculture and immediately made the connection [between] the food on their plates and the unnecessary pain and suffering that needs to happen in order for it to get there.

This is why we do this. This is why the Cube of Truth is so important.”

There is nothing beautiful or fashionable about abusing and killing animals just so you can wear their skin.

We will never hold back from the truth, as horrific as it may be.

We have a duty to speak up for those who need our help.

We have the privilege to act, and we must do so.

Simply “giving up meat” is not enough.

If you are purchasing dairy, you are funding the slaughter of male calves for veal (baby cow flesh)—and, when no longer profitable, the mothers for beef (adult cow flesh). The two industries are one and the same, and ultimately, all the cows will end up slaughtered, one way or another—even on “local” or “organic” dairy farms.

Ditch dairy. Go vegan.

Pigs are frequently kept in conditions as you see on the screen.

“Grower” pigs—pigs between weaning age and sale or transfer to a breeding herd—are sold for slaughter or killed for rations.

These individuals are selectively bred to have large appetites, rapid growth rates, and optimal food-conversion ratios (“food conversion” meaning how much of their food is converted into body weight, such as muscle and fat). Modern domesticated pigs can reach a slaughter weight of 100 kilograms (220 pounds) in 24 weeks.

We are cutting their lives short, before they’ve even had a chance to live.

An individual fighting for their life.

Crabs, lobsters, crayfish, shrimps, and prawns all fall under the large and diverse arthropod taxon and are part of the animal kingdom.

Many who are looking to reduce their cruel impact on non-humans first start by not consuming mammals, but fish and shellfish are often forgotten, likely due to their distance in similar features and characteristics in comparison to humans.

Yet these species face the same injustice, torture, and death as others, and research has shown they feel pain, just like us. In fact, crustaceans release stress hormones, similar to human adrenal hormones, in response to painful events.

Several methods are used to catch crabs, including setting traps in shallow water and dragging huge nets along the ocean floor. However, these methods are not only detrimental to their intended victims but also to other marine animals, who get caught in the nets and are known as by-catch. They are often injured in the process but are usually thrown back into the water regardless.

Lobsters and crabs are often kept alive during transportation and display—and to further add to the stress, have their legs tied together.

When they reach the restaurants and markets, they are kept in small tanks or buckets, with some places offering you to pick your own lobster or crab to eat. Many of the individuals kept in these conditions suffer from stress associated with confinement, low oxygen levels, and crowding.

If this weren’t horrific enough, they endure all of this only to be boiled alive or hacked apart with knives whilst fully conscious (and in the case of crabs, sometimes even microwaved alive). They will fight against this, thrashing their bodies wildly and scraping the sides of the pot in a desperate attempt to escape.

The video above shows an individual who wants to live but that we have decided will die for our palates. What kind of barbarity is this?

If your “food” has victims, it’s time to rethink your choices.

Millions of individuals suffer and die each and every day, for reasons that hold no weight.

Would we so eagerly justify our choices if it were a different species? Would we ever treat our own species like this?

Minks are one of the most common animals exploited for their fur. The majority of mink fur farms are in Europe, with Denmark dominating the market. It is estimated that 1,500 Danish fur farmers produce around 19 million mink skins annually, with the majority being exported to China. Mink fur is Denmark’s third biggest agricultural export item of animal origin.

The minks, bred in captivity, spend their entire lives in small, cramped cages within sheds, often with little daylight. They are territorial animals, and these conditions can lead to them becoming highly stressed, with many turning to cannibalism and self-mutilation (as witnessed in the image above).

Minks cannot express their basic natural behaviours when in captivity, such as running and hunting for food. In the wild, they reside near water, which they are also deprived of on mink farms.

To preserve the quality of the fur, slaughter methods such as gassing, neck breaking, and live anal electrocution are used, and the minks are sometimes skinned alive.

Imagine being bred so that your skin could literally be ripped off your back.

There is simply no excuse for wearing fur, from any animal.

Once you truly make the connection and realize it isn’t about us, veganism is easy.

A follower shared this with us:

“I wanted to say thank you because it was due to the Cube of Truth that myself and my boyfriend are now vegan.

I knew what happened in the dairy and egg industries but was still not vegan. But the Cube of Truth (Leeds, UK) stayed with me, and within weeks, we were vegan. Best thing I’ve ever done diet-wise, and the emotional shift internally around food and animals is very unexpected.

I struggled with vegetarianism, but veganism is easy. It feels right on so many levels.”
