Why use Props?
Blog by @stoelyoga.amsterdam
Where I used to see it as a weakness using a Prop in my yoga practice, it has now become my best friend and teacher.
What is a Prop really? Prop literally means support. Think of it as that literal helping hand. Where in everyday life we are grateful when we get support from someone, why not also in your yoga practice?
Within the yoga world various props are offered: bolsters, belts, blankets, cushions, blocks, balls, wheels, tires, bows, wedges, sandbags, mats, cloths, chairs. These props are not offered to emphasize your weakness, no these props are offered to guide your unique body shape and structure in various asanas. The prop helps you to develop strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, and resistance.
For example, where a prop can help you become flexible, it also helps you avoid pain, and to prevent your muscles and joints to get overworked. The prop protects you to from going over that oh so familiar border. This reduced the risk of injuries.
